Hi guys,
I thought I would ask your opinion on mac vs pc. It is a lil off topic but here it goes. A couple of my close friends just bought macintosh's, they have always used pc's and now they have made the big switch. I posted earlier about getting a new laptop, I am wondering if I should just look at getting a mac powerbook instead? Has anyone used these and what are your thoughts? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I use a Mac mini, but my ex parnter, who has been demoted to roommate, has a powerbook that I worked on for a while. It's a really nice machine to use. I too, had just switched from being a pc person all my life to using a Mac. At first, it seems a little weird but you get the hang of it really quick. Once you get really good at the drop and drag feature, you can work alot faster than with a pc.
Imovie is a great program for video which comes free. I find Graphic Converter by Lemke to be indespensible. It's like Thumbsplus, has all the great batch features and only cost like $32 or something like that. Talk about a great deal.
RBrowserlite is a great ftp freeware program for the Mac.
Performance wise, Powerbooks can handle just about anything if you get the fastest processor they offer. You may have to up your space capacity if you're doing movie work.
Not worrying about spyware and viruses, I can't tell you how much time this frees up. I never have to reboot. I used to have to reboot my pc constantly adding things, removing things... with the powerbooks, you really don't have to worry about that.

I have an iBook G4 that I use when I travel. I can sit in an airport, use the wireless internet connection, sync up to my iPod, transfer images from my digital cam... even work on videos. The Mac browsers support LiveTwinksCam, too. I was a member for severel months and never had a single problem with the feeds. Hope that helps!
Thanks Steven and Charles, that's the info I was looking for. Now I have to figure out if I want the powerbook or ibook. ((hugs))
my partner has been threatening to buy a powerbook...I am a bit leary of it only because I am a PC techie for the last 15 years now, but I did read an interesting article on Mac's saying they are switching to Pentium-based machines. I wonder how long it will take for a clever hacker to come out with a version of OS-X that runs on any plain PC.
let us know how the new Mac works out for you if you take the plunge, its interesting to hear about this from ex-PC users.

Yes it is true that mac is switching to pentium, I heard they are going to announce that at the Paris convention next month.
It is odd seeing people go from PC to mac, both of my friends within a week switched from PC's to Mac and love them. A few more of my friends are also following suit. I guess I am now interested and going to give it a try as well. It will be nice to have a totally different type of computer, I have only known dos and windows my entire life. I am excited! It will also be nice to have one brand of computer, not a bunch of generic and shit brands all running scattered software and hardware that doesn't blend.
I will keep you posted. Probably going to get the ibook and see how that goes. Powerbook is a bit much $$ for a laptop in my opinion.
Ok, I took the dive! I went into a Apple store and bought a Powerbook a few weeks ago. I LOVE IT! I have been a PC person my entire life. Using this computer is like driving a BMW. I would suggest everyone make the switch. PC's seem so generic compared to this elegant Macintosh. I will eventually switch my other 2 computers to Mac as well.
I gave my grandfather a PC a few years ago so we could email and chat online and he had viruses and spyware all over it. He had no problem using the PC but the viruses, etc were too much. So I will now suggest to him to purchase a Macintosh. My parents need a new computer as well, I will suggest they make the switch to.
It is early, but I have never worked on a computer as fine as this product. My background is in IT and I have done that for 15 years and I am once again excited about computers again, after being over it.
Jacob...I have to confess that I was reading your last post like surfers read a porn story (oh my - does this mean I am that much of a techie geek or is it just that I am so jaded to porn that this is what turns me on now???).

Mac works for me. Notebook-wise I have a relatively inexpensive iBook because I need a portable computer that can handle the harshness of shifting locations all the time. PowerBooks and now MacBook Pros are great but not as tough physically in addition to attracting more attention (not necessarily a bad thing) however I think the extra attention can create a reason for them to sprout legs and walk away more so than an iBook.
