If so, are there any 'quirks' to using it that you think i should know about?
Just ordered myself one of these for some stock photography stuff we're going to be starting up shortly as well as some porn related work ;)
Also, do you think its worth getting a couple of spare batteries and memory cards?

we do!
no real quirks and we've been using it since a few days after it came out last november. we definitely got a bigger battery, although we find the battery it comes with isn't bad. if you're used to panasonic, whether camcorder or digital camera, the lumix will seem awfully familiar to use. the lumix is NOT a great performer in low light, but we have some pics we're happy with that weren't all that well-lit.
here's a recent pic taken in less than perfect light that came out just as we wanted. it's compressed and shrunk to just over half the original size:

if you want more info, i can ask arie to talk with you on icq when he gets in. overall the fz30 has good images as well as the area is well lit and if you want i can show you some full sized pics, each of which comes out at about 3.2mb. you can opt to shoot tiffs but i'm happy with good quality jpgs.
