Speedbumps in model recruiting. What would you do?

Alright so I'm facing a bit of a logistics problem. I don't fare well in terms of scheduling multiple people on the same day, for different times. Everyone has different schedules, and has different time / date requirements. So I'm lucky if I get two models to come through on the same day. Usually one flakes. I need them both to come through because I'm booking some higher profile locations, and I want to shoot as many models as I can.

I'm wondering how you model recruiting veterans do it. I've been doing this for years now and I still don't have it perfected.

Today, I feel like everything is complete disorder. I had one model, Shonn, lined up to be shot on Monday. I told him on Friday I'd call him as soon as I heard back from Eric. I never heard from Eric so I didn't call Shonn. So today, on Saturday, I called Shonn to confirm if Monday still worked for him. I got his voicemail so I left him a message. So I waited a while. Never heard back from him, so I called Chris. Left him a voicemail, and never heard back. Then I called John, and I talked to him and he said Monday was perfect. So I penciled him in.

Well, I got a txt message from Shonn and I replied and told him I needed to confirm his availability. He says he's no longer interested. So I'm a little confused, but I'm writing him off.

Now I've got 1 model scheduled for Monday when I wanted to be shooting 2.

What would you have done to avoid this situation?

i'm no veteran, but i feel like one in only one year of shooting *lol*

last week we scheduled two guys for the same day, one after another and something new (to us) happened - the first one showed up very late and the second one showed up very early. the first model was just TOO good to turn away so things got rushed and awkward - to say the least.

depending on how long each shoot takes, if you have a sitting room, maybe you can have someone have the guys do their paper work while you shoot. that way if you have two guys at once, you're covered. mostly i try to shoot them either as soon after we hear from them as possible so they don't chicken out - and yes, even nn models chicken out - or i try to wait long enough so that we can talk to them several times. the ones who come off as reliable after 3 weeks have always showed for us so far.

i have a friend who used to have a lot of no-shows so one day he got crazy and booked too many guys. i bet you guess what comes next - they all showed up *LOL*

as long as we're working with models, i think things can always go wrong.

Hire my ex boyfriend to recruit. Once I had a day where there were two ready to go every half hour. It was a fucking mess.

Or move to Boston? Guys seem to be real horny there for some reason.

THAT HAPPENED TO ME MORE THAN ONCE. You know how embarrassing that is?

As luck would have it, I arranged the 2nd model this morning. One last guy that I hadn't talked to yet. He seems quite excited that I called. LOL :)

And today while I was at the Cake concert in SF, I got a call from the model who I thought had disappeared off the face of the earth. I told him I had already booked up both spots for Monday because I didn't think I'd hear back from him. So I told him I needed him to be my stand-by emergency backup model for Monday... and he was stoked about that.

Guess it all worked out fine.

I guess the moral of the story is that you really gotta shoot models on the same week they contact you, or else who knows where their attention might disappear to.

It's one or the other... shoot them immediately, or communicate with them for a month or more.

The other issue is... if you make them wait and shoot them several weeks later, you can be pretty sure they are really comfortable with the idea of doing the work. Maybe it's different for other companies, but for us, that's a pretty important part of the deal... we don't want anyone deciding to do porn out of desperation or because "it seemed like a good idea at the time" and so far, we have a pretty good track record in that regard.

I'm not in production and I'm sure budgeting is tough, but why not book an extra model?

If you are shooting a hardcore scene, you can just make it a threeway. I know the straight companies have a "kill fee" policy that if something changes and you don't need a model, give them like $200 bucks for showing up but not performing.

I think a straight talent agency like LA Direct Models which has a good reputation for having their models show up on time and ready to work, would do well if they added some gay models to their roster

Models are the backBone of the business however, producers rule.

What does that mean? It's very simple, producers provide the work and the work is to be done on our terms, at our place of business and at the times we specify. It is as simple as that.

Once a producer starts manipulating schedules for this reason or that or bending for this person or that...well, you run into all kinds of problems.

We provide a selection of one or two shoot dates for our models and a selection of a partner to work with. End of story. The models are either interested (most always) or not.

Both Cam and I are always ready to jump in if necessary but usually have someone on standby. Kill fees are helpful too. We also have a "no pop"
clause in our contracts. No pop, duduct -$$$ and conversely, double pop +$$$.

Don't forget, as a producer, you ARE in charge - not the models.

And BTW, avoid escorts... they tend to drop out at the last minute for a better deal and will often show up completely used for the shoot.

What does it mean? Is it if no one pops-up (shows up) you deduct $$$ from a later (possible) shoot and if both models for a shoot show up you add $$$?

I think he means pop = pop shot = cum shot....

for instance if someone performs but can cum, the scene probably won't be as good and they may not be able to use it, so they wont pay the model as much money. gives incentive to the models to be able to perform and not show up after recently having sex

No pop (not able to cum) = less money in the check

Double pop (two cum shots) = more money in the check, etc.
