Are gay Affiliate Program owners too 'politically correct'?

I was recently reading an article by the owner of Ben and Jerry's who has always been real vocal in his fight for the enviroment and other social issues, and how that actually really helped his business. And it got me thinking about how many program owners I see that really take the 'hiding their head in the sand' approach to affiliate marketing, I think in fear that they will not be liked by affiliates if they actually speak their mind.

Personally, I think it would make me want to promote a program more if I knew the owner was a good person that stood up for what they believe in, even if it wasn't necesarilly something I believed in. People like Larry Flynt and Howard Stern come to mind as examples.

I speak my mind and am not suffering affiliate wise because of it.

I think honesty is important in any business and well, as most of you on GWW will know by now, if i think someones an asshole, im sure as hell gonna tell them :)

Fighting for free speach or fighting for the envoriment are too much bigger issues than telling someone they're an asshole. Nonetheless, politcal correctness has nothing to do with any of the above.

I agree with you, and perhaps 'politically correct' was the wrong phrase to use. I don't think calling someone an 'asshole' on a webmaster board is as important as the big issues you speak of, although I do have respect for people that speak their mind.

On a personal level, I really feel lucky to be in this business and to have been able to genuinely help people. Whether it's the help we've given our transsexual editor to be able to work at home so she can be with her daughter (and earn money for her operation), or helping our employees in underdeveloped countries really develop their talents (and put food on the table for their families), that is honestly my favorite part about the business. And it also brings about a loyalty with our staff that really makes us a 'family' and gives the kind of loyalty I never saw when I worked for other companies myself.

Lee, I think you hit it spot-on, honesty is the most important factor in this industry mainly because there are/were so many dishonest people.

When I see the word "honest" (honesty, trustworthy yadda yadda), used to market something, I run (become leery)!

I do love persons that wear their heart on their sleeves, and those th@ are not afraid to 'offend' others (no, not trolls - I did not say insult. I mean those that do not concern themselves with whether or not they should say what they think merely to 'close the sale').
However, that does not mean I will promote them. It simply means I will know, whether or not to promote them, sooner.

I believe people whom are firm in their beliefs (do not sway) are not to be commended, but rather regarded with a cautious eye, and pitied (such as the religious fundamentalists - they do not stray from the path or system of beliefs in front of them, even though the 'light' shines brightest when it is behind them)! Mules, donkeys, pig heads are a few of the terms th@ come to mind when I see those type. Additional pets names are bigots, racists etc!

Although political correctness (PC) is not what you were getting at, IT is merely an extension of politeness, consideration, fairness, and equality etc, not another conspiracy!
Not being PC does not mean your honest, it simply means you do not care if you offend the person/s you are conversing with (and that dogs can not learn new tricks), &/or that you can not be bothered with pleasantries.

Too many are now using the word 'honesty' as a weapon of marketing which has effectively reduce the great power that word &/or concept once had.

Trend is redefining honesty into something that no longer depicts that which it once was … kinda like teen or twink.

Too bad, because it is so dear to me.

Wow. I couldn't (and didn't) say it better myself. If someone comes right out and has to tell you are they honest, there is a good chance they aren't.

Adult Internet is often like the wild, wild west, and we can only try to do our part to bring fairness, equality, open mindedness and (dare I say it) passion and love to everything we do. After all, if you don't believe in what you are doing, and don't love it, and can't stand up for what you are doing, do you really belong in this business?

Nope! however, I am sure we all know people that doing things th@ they should not be, because of their lack of passion (for whatever they are doing).

You know, I am glad you mention these things. They do matter to me. Especially the part about your employees in developing countries. Possible exploitation is something that goes through my mind everytime I see a site with third-world models featured in it (gay or str8). Knowing that a program owner/content producer is aware of that issue and makes a point of paying the moderls (and other local employees) their fair share does make me feel better about promoting a program.
