I'm seeing those a lot lately, guys with blue stars tattooed on their stomachs.
Does it mean anything, or is it just a fad?

Hi Marc,
My roommate has those.. will ask him if they mean anything today.
Chris
Hi again Marc,
just heard back and yes... it is just a fad... well as much as a fad can be since it is permanent.
They look hot though.
I've seen one of those "suns" on one's asshole once...
OH, I know who you are talking about... hes a star from Berlin.

Thats our roommate/houseboy.
Doesn't surprise me. Most people these days have no idea what they've got tattooed on their body for life. People just get them for decoration.
The blue stars were originally gotten by sailors to signify finding their way back home.
They've been made popular in recent years by punk society. For people who know what they are getting, they mean finding your way in life.
There are also red stars. Don't quote me on this, but I think those are a more hardcore version of the blue stars. As in, finding your way in life without being influenced by the establishment.
Apparently gay people used to get the blue stars on their wrist decades ago as a signal. Then it could be covered up with a watch when they wanted to hide it. Maybe this was before rainbow bracelets and whatnot.
all of what Matt 26z posted, plus the rest, is located here: http://www.faqfarm.com/Q/What_do_nau...r_tattoos_mean
My answer: Yes, they mean the exact same things as the "license plate" (tattoos across the small of the back).
ok perhaps the first 3 or 4 people to get them did it for some greater meaning but I'm quite sure since then the vast majority of them exist upon the person's body because "i thought it looked sorta kewlies!"
