There seem to be less newbie webmasters hitting the industry specifically on the gay side than there are on the straight side of things however, there also seems to be more midbie level straight webmasters hitting the gay side of marketing over the past 3-6 months.
I was just wondering if anyone else had noticed this trend also? Also, what would you attribute this trend to?

regarding the midbies, i'd say that they tried marketing str8 and didn't make much money. the word on the str8 boards is gay sells a lot better so the guys who have been at this a little while try gay hoping it will be easier for them.
I did both straight and gay from day one, so can't really say. I had steep learning curves on both, and am still learning. I see many webmasters on straight AWM boards try their hand in gay, in what they consider to be "trying out niches". It's almost always general gay porn, no specific niche.
This is all so interesting to me. I personally am not a webmaster myself, but I do come in contact with my bosses Chip and AJ on a regular basis. Although I started as just talent in this industry the rest of it has become very intriguing to me. I have been trying to get more involved as best I can, but it can prove difficult at times living in Michigan still (I'm almost done with school…yay!!!). Anyway, I don't have an opinion on the rates of people switching over because I haven’t been around. But, I can say that in my personal life (before I was involved so heavily into the industry) I had noticed/heard people (not related to the porn industry) state that the gay porn industry was a very lucrative one. Much more than that of the straight side of it, and that many guys (probably referring to talent) would do it even if they were straight. Basically saying that the general public as a whole knows that the gay porn industry has more money in it. That’s about all I know of so far on the issue… hope that helps????

Thanks for the personal insight Skyler. It helps to know where people are coming from and the impressions that they come with. I never look at models as "just talent". They are friends and colleagues. We just do different jobs. I've read several of your posts and I think you are already adding to the knowledge base here. I think there's plenty of money to make on both sides. I do believe that on the gay side, you need to really know your market especially if your doing a niche or microniche. I think gay guys are just more picky and will only pay for exactly what they want. The target is harder to hit, but the payoff is also bigger.
Oh more specific about the newbies... if I were a newbie, I would be hesitant to post here because it's very hard to be taken seriously at first. We've all been through it, it's just like webmaster boot camp. The ones that really want it will stick around.
You know, to some extent i think i agree with you however, i should say that as far as i can tell, those newer webmasters who do start posting on GWW and are serious about wanting to make money, get the help they ask for especially when they actually take note of the advice they are given.Quote:

I also dont think this is something that is true to GWW, there are countless boards in the industry that i see new people posting on and, after a few posts, they fall in to the 'same ol' same ol' style of posting that can be seen on GFY, because they think that in order to become 'successfull' that is how they need to behave on the boards. It is a shame to because most of the people who post to become 'popular' are very rarely the ones worth knowing from a business standpoint.
