I may be one of those guys...
I'll often include an aff. link to some site or a video listing page when a star/celeb/pornstar or semi-famous person dies, gets in trouble or somehow makes the news.
In Andy's case I included a link to Bear Films in a article that he wrote and gave me permission to post. I orginally posted it to my gay news bits blog a year or two ago. I decided to re-post it at my gay side shows blog.
It originally had linkage to all of his sites in his byline. I needed to change the byline to reflect that he had died. I didn't want to publish the links that were in the original byline because god knows where those would re-direct to in the near future.
But it felt weird having no site mentioned in the byline so I decided to put in Bear Films because that's where he had been working last and where there would be some sort of Andy Dill presence reflected there.
In the case of that guy who got arrested I think I linked to a video page featuring all the flicks he was in.
There's been other posts at my various blogs that dealt with similiar situations.
I try to keep it simple and not go overboard.
The thing is, when something happens to a well known person, people are actively searching for everything about the person in question. Sales and rentals for that persons body of work go up. I've observed this both online and offline.
If someone gets more info or gets to discover something that they didn't know or haven't seen about a person they're interested in then great.
If I can make a little bit of coin then fine. If I can't then fine.
And if some people think what I do is tacky or wrong -- oh well, I can live with that too.
That's my one and only post on this subject as I've got to go and figure out how to pay my bills for January.
