What Makes You Click On A Banner / Button?

Just curious about this im in the process of writing another article and have been looking at various adult industry ads over the past few days trying to figure out the ones that i have clicke do in the past and, the ones that i havent.

So i basically realized the creatives i tend to click on are ones that give me enough information about a program to know that it has something to offer me.

So for example, a banner telling me about a site saying something such as, '100's of hosted galleries in various niches' wont be clicked by me because i dont know what the 'various' niches are whereas, 'hosted galleries in many niches such as gay, teen, fetish, ebony etc' i will click because i know that they immediately have at least 1 gay site as well as a range of promo materials in addition to regular buttons and banners.

Oh also, flash ads for some reason i dont click on.. no idea why lol

So what makes you click on a creative?

what the button says. cute pictures of stacks of money, amazing flash usage, lighting, naked people - none of those have ever made me click. tell me you pay once a week, or that you have a niche i need, or lots of gay sites to promote, or lots of free content and i click.

you could have used a text link and gotten me to click the same way.

there is nothing creative you could put on a banner to make me click unless i'm looking for someone to make a banner for me *LOL* and most likely then i'll just go to webinc.

I agree with basschick, it's not the stacks of money that gets me there. Everybody says I can make stacks of cash.

Things that get my attention:

- If you feature guys that are in my niche, and particularly if they're guys I haven't seen before, or seen a lot of.

- Free content is definitely a draw.

- Right now, if you said, "We reply to your e-mail," I'd definitely take notice. Seriously, I know I'm flogging this dead horse, but anything that indicates I'm not just going to be another webmaster ... service-minded stuff is grabbing my attention these days.

- Paying on time doesn't really matter to me because so many affiliate programs are paid out by the billing companies, and those cheques come in like clockwork.

- I steer clear of anything that sounds too good to be true. So, if you say "earn 100% of the commission," or "earn $75 per sign-up" my bullshit detectors go off and I hear my mother in the background saying, "If it sounds too good to be true, there's a catch."

- If banners say tips, tricks, articles, tutorials, I'm a little interested to see what I can learn.

- Finally, so much of the porn world is cheesy (pardon the pun) so if you've designed something that doesn't scream Las Vegas strip, I take notice.

- Nightcharm has great creatives (they're for traffic though) but check them out: http://www.payforgay.com/

- Sean Cody's got great creatives, too. But again, that's for traffic.

as Dzinerbear and basschick stated, it's more the benefits and features that attract, not the cheezy cash money images. If there is something unique about a program, it should be stated.

Dzinerbear, I wonder if "we respond to your emails" would work for my banner? I do respond, and I do it quick, but the statement seems...maybe a little tacky even though it's an important statement. good suggestion, it got me thinking!

It's seems like such a prevalent problem that it might just be whacky enough to work.

especially the part about sponsors that respond in a timely
manner to eMail...

I have recently been promoting a company that although they
may convert (yet not as good as I'd expected) - I am 48 hours
from grabbing their promos OFF my projects - because they
are too damned slow to respond to eMails - - - and although
it may make a bit of bling for me - I choose NOT to make
any bling for them - if they are so rude and too ignorant
to hire help if they need it...

oh and NO... it's not that I am pissed they didn't hire me...
I never would have taken a job with them...
I am a chooooosy biotch...

I'll jerk their promo's down Tuesday and put something else
up and give the traffic to another sponsor - a sponsor that
treats a webmaster like the gold that they are....
