Lee and I were having a conversation about the age-old concept of a summer slow down. I plot trends all of the time, so much so I wish that there was more time in a day with all the analysis I do.
But my question to all of you is… Is this a trend you see? Is a summer slow down real for you?
Personally, I don’t see a slowdown in surfer sales. What about you? I’d like to hear what you have to say.

in the late 90's, the summer slow-down used to hit really hard (for me, anyway.) The past couple of years haven't been bad at all. I think it might be partly due to the fact that in the early days so many of the porn-surfers were college guys, who were away from their computers. all of that .edu traffic would disappear for a couple of months. as more people come online, the trends are changing. maybe some day it will level out !
You know for the most part i dont believe in the Summer Slowdown however, i do beleive that *something* happens during the summer which causes some webmasters to lose revenue.
Personally i think it has more to do with complacency on a webmasters part when it comes to losing revenue / traffic over the summer period.
For example, and i am generalizing a bit here which i know i shouldnt, a lot of the webmasters that *I* have spoken to and seen respond to this topic in the past seem to be the ones who are either relatively new to the industry or, the ones that perhaps havent yet figured out how to maximize both their traffic and ultimately, their sales. Now with that said, reasoning behind the apparent lack of saes over the 'slowdown' period could just be as simple as the fact that it is summer and with the nicer weather hitting most of the world during this time webmasters spend more time 'relaxing' than working.
Of course that is only my opinion and i could be way off base but i personally havent noticed a significant decline in sales during the summer period, at least on sites where *I* control the flow of traffic.

I think we don't see it as much any more because our industry is really beginning to market on more of a global level. I could see it hit here, in the US, in the summer months because of the college guys being out of school, or people taking vacations - or just checking out the hotties on the beach instead of on the 'Net. But lately, it seems to me anyway, that the slowdown has descreased - even if it hasn't totally gone away for everyone.
I know the concept of summer slowdown is oft debated, much like quality vs. quantity - but I feel that in the past it has been a real issue, and that if you aren't taking advantage of your full potential (no matter what end of the biz you represent!) that it could become a reality even now.

It would seem to be a basic principle of working anywhere at anything yet so often the basics are forgotten.
I can still remember one of my very first mistakes in the indutry, thinking that content could only be used once on a single site per set.. took me almost 2 weeks to realize i was way off base and cost me about $300 too lol

lol - we all probably have some pretty funny newbie stories... one of my first mistakes was asking too many basic questions on the old CONDOM forums. I took some crap from the vets at the time, but fortunately Meat, Rowdy and a few other people took me aside, worked with me and I learned SO much. I almost quit that first day that I went down in flames - lol Fortunately I didn't give up.
