How much content (time wise or scene wise) so you think is 'ideal' in terms of shoots for putting a DVD package together?
Right now im looking at getting 4 twenty-five minute scenes done for a 90 minute DVD, is that a realistic estimate or should i go longer?
Just curious to see what those of you producing DVDs though.

I would say 90 minutes is plenty. That is what alot of producers are doing now, even some have been going down to as little as 75 minutes. As far as the amount of scenes, I think you are right on with 4, as most times you will see 4 or 5 scenes :)
90 is good but not necessary - we broke the system when we started out by going with 3 (30) minute scenes - most studios were doing 5 (15-20) minute scenes - we preferred the longer format, fewer models to pay, more time to completely explore the models' chemistry, etc.
most important though was that the 90 minute format was derived from the time limitations set by VHS tapes - 90 minute tapes were cheaper to dupe
DVD's aren't as limiting and offer more flexibility
there is no answer - we've been successful by breaking tradition - and we've even commanded top dollar with fewer models and fewer scenes - go figure...
Our distributor VERY strongly recommends at least 5 scenes. Length is less important than number of scenes, they have told us. All have at least 5 scenes, a few have 6 scenes.
Many of our DVDs are in the 75 to 85 minute range, a few reach beyond 90. We do include a fair number of extras, though... previews of other titles that represent about another 25-30 minutes of content, bloopers and outtakes that are sometimes 10-15 minutes, and sometimes model interviews that are 7-15 minutes. So far, we've stuck with DVD-5 which limits us to about ~90 minutes of content encoded at a decent bitrate.
I think that if you have a fabulous product, you can get away with 3 scenes or 4 scenes, but keep in mind that if you're a new studio looking to compete with studios that already have a reputation and name established, you're better off to put a strong product out there and give the customers at least as much as they are traditionally expecting to get.
i'd still like to know how you put 4 15-minute scenes together and get 90 minutes. is this metric math? :D
