I Have A Business Idea But What Do You Think About It...

I was just searching around at a few different places and realized that in 'adult' whilst P2P, filesharing, bit torrent sites etc can actually end up costing us money in terms of lost business, what if we could actually turn this to an advantage?

My idea was this, build a site, that surfers would have to 'join' much like a regular paysites however, instead of having 'content' inside the site, it would provide them with an updated list (or maybe a search feature) so that they could find all the gay porn listed on usenet, torrent sites, youtube, filesharing sites etc, etc?

I have just spoken with CCBill and so long as *I* am not hosting the content on the usernet/bittorrent sites, or on *my* site, they think that they 'should' be okay with processing for the aggregate system allowing surfers to find this type of stuff.

Is this business idea ethically/morally wrong, even if affiliates could profit from it before the surfer actually 'found out' about the sites they are going to be looking for anyway?

Could this actually be a way for us [the industry] to successfully monetize this sort of 'unwanted' traffic?

Depends on the content you aggregate?

I'm not sure if I understand the idea correctly, but putting a P2P/torrent spin on content you license or content that should be openly available, like xtube, might be one thing. But I easily imagine there would be sites that have a problem with someone else monetizing their service unless there's an agreement.

Being a gateway to stolen content is another matter, and would be squashed pretty quickly.

One of the biggest sales/conversion programs on Commission Junction (affiliate program for mainstream businesses) is a network of scam sites that claim to offer access to "unlimited movie downloads from major studios" or "unlimited free software" and such. They imply that you pay $30 or $50 (1 month / 1 year) for a membership and get this database.

What you get instead is instructions and a file download area on how to download and use BitTorrent.

I can't believe their credit card processors haven't cancelled them yet.

As to your idea, Lee, it's a little less unethical than the above, but it is doing a huge disservice to the community as a whole. I personally wouldn't do something like that, because it would hurt everyone, including our own properties, in the long term. However, I respect your creativity in comping up with the concept.

So i just got an ICQ from someone telling me that one sponsor program is already doing this, so it would seem it actually isnt a new concept at all...

Looking at their site, i cant see any ethical or moral reasons not to offer such a site, it pretty much just aggregates binary content from newsgroups, usenet servers and torrents like i mentioned above and it doesnt appear to be just limited to adult content either...

as soon as members find out they can get the same thing for free they will quit (no rebilling) and will likely chargeback as it is a bit of a scam. I wouldn't touch that idea with my 10 foot pole ;)

Providing paid access to stolen content is as unethical as stealing the content yourself. Trying to sugar coat it just makes you look desperate.

That's like me giving paid subscribers urls to sites listing stolen credit card numbers.

So in that case, Google is also doing the same thing, Yahoo is also doing the same thing, MSN and AOL are also doing the same thing.

Just because SOME people choose to post stolen content to these types of sites/service that doesnt mean they are inherantly bad.

If someone posts a gallery to a TGP using stolen content, does that mean we should automatically label ALL TGP content as stolen?

What about the thousands of sites that put their content on these types of places voluntarily to get traffic, almost every major company posts trailers to torrent, P2P and filesharing sites these days, i guess we should stop them from doing that too?

Again, i said nothing about allowing access to stolen content, just because it is out there, doesnt mean thats what i want to give these 'members' access too, you guys made that assumption on your own.

You are giving a search feature and updated listing of all the Gay porn on usenet, torrents, filesharing sites, etc., for a fee.

You'll be offering a paid service that provides a convenient way to stolen content you search out and categorize for them. Sure a video here or there wont be stolen, but the vast majority are, as we all know.

You are not proposing a Google, MSN, or AOL.

There are no assumptions being made, it's pretty straight forward.

I'm sure Titan would sue your ASS off for showing your members how to access their stolen content on bittorrent/file sharing sites.

I wouldn't touch this concept with Luke's 10-foot pole either. ;)

ISPs also provide a paid service that provided a convenient way to stolen content - The internet.

Again, i wont be doing anything other than providing an interface, such as Google, so that 'members' can search for stuff on their own.. i wouldnt be saying 'here is some stolen content' id be saying 'here is a place where you can find porn movies, images, etc' - Just like Google does to its users looking for *whatever*.

My point is, the service itself isnt 'bad' just as bit torrent sites, filesharing and P2P services arent inherantly 'bad' its a few people that use them for 'bad' purposes that are 'bad'.

The web is full of 'bad' stuff, but it still gets used every day by millions of people.

Id be saying 'here you go, type in *gay porn* and find images and movies featuring just that'... Just like this link does.

The difference being, it would be marketed to adult surfers as a way to find gay porn on the existing FREE P2P and fielsharing networks, etc.

I guess im having a hard time seeing why everyone would have a problem with a company profiting from something that NOBODY is currently able to profit from, then again, maybe that is the issue.
