I was just wondering, how many of you non-us based webmasters are currently following the 2257 regulations even though you dont need to be?

European Webmasters follow the 2257 regulations because the european regulations (e.g. in Germany) are so very bad and bullshit regulations. In Germany you need a 'face to face' examination about every customer and in a global business like in the adult industry it is impossible to follow the bullshit european regulations.
I think it is simply smart business, to at least try to be as compliant as possible, even if residing outside the USA.. While I am 100% out of the USA, in respects to hosting, to being a citizen, and so on, it still makes sense to avoid the potential for headaches, by attempting to be compliant where possible.
It does factor in too, in selecting sponsors and such. It is an added burden, as one also has to follow their own countries regulations, and when they come in conflict, its a dicey situation at times. Though I haven't had to deal with that, so far, knock on wood, or my head, whichever is thicker.. :thumbsup:
To follow the 2257 rules has at least one advantage that customers from the US get a certain feeling of security they are not downloading illegal content. However, I think a couple of non US websites with 2257 statements don't follow the regulations word by word, but just keep those statements on their websites for before mentioned reason. Of course, not following every tweak and turn of 2257 doesn't mean they have illegal content.

no, in general the average surfer doesnt give a rats arse about those 4 numbers but we as content producers should. I dont live in the US but my site is hosted in the US because of bullshit laws we have here. I also produce videos for mainly US websites so I have to follow the 2257 laws. I have never had any complaints about any of my paperwork and hence I maintain my reputation and off course develop even more relationships with other sites due to word of mouth etc. As the saying goes, when in Rome, do as the Romans do. My site is hosted in the US so I follow the US laws with 2257 and the rest. :shades:

Surfers by and large do nott give a shit about 2257 or know what it is
if they did they wouldn't scour the torrents, irc, newsgroups, rapidshare and forums and download anything in sight but would instead be downloading only from sites that 'make them feel safe'.
The only way surfers would give a shit, more than 2 of them, is if their free porn got taken away.
Unless that surfer is buying access to sites that have boys that look 15 I don't see how if at all 2257 will make them feel safe. But in that case these would most likely be 15 year old boys that just got the right date stamped on their fake IDs.
Now if we're talking foreign program owners - most definately they should comply as best as local law allows them, if of course they care about having US webmasters. US webmasters that do want to comply with 2257 regs
But for me, no amount of 2257 compliance and copies of a model's IDs and what not, would even remotely convince me to even look much less promote some of the pre-pubescent /looking/ crap some so called webmasters are trying to push as teen that as if it's 100% 2257 compliant.

I don't know about 'some horny surfer', but some customers who actually pay for memberships are certainly concerned if content is legal or not. And why would all european websites I know of bother to put those 4 numbers on their websites if they really don't have to and it wouldn't have any effect on their sales? Some kind of charm to keep away evil demons, like some people hang a cross on the wall of their homes?Quote:

What about all these TGPs that put explicit thumbs on their web space to link to a gallery. That cant be complaint can it? They cant all be non US tgp owners. Also are banner ads included? I see explicit banners all the time, do US webmasters never use those?
The only way for a affiliate to be 100% compliant is to use non-nude non-sexual content from sponsor, including banners, wich I find hard to get. Now I think that sponsor program should offer more non-nude non-sexual promo tools for their affiliate. Even if I get the records, i'm not interested at all to display my adress on the net. It is so much more difficult for a affiliate webmaster to be compliant. This regulation, I think will damage the sponsor program.

If I am complient with 2257 i will break my countrie's data protection laws (even when I produce content and pass on the required 2257 information)
