If you are on a Mac, there are a couple of programs that will rip a dvd. One is called Mac The ripper. It will put it into a format that you can easily import into FCP or iMovie. Then you can drop your watermark on it and re-export it out to whatever format you want.
Problem with Mac The Ripper is that the videos don't got into FCP with audio, which is a bit of a problem.
I'm thinking that since we have about 3 times more PCs at the office, a PC solution is a better one.. we'll see..
The other program that we use, which will save it for FCP is called DVDxDV you can pull off just chapters or a time frame.
You can do it with Sony Vegas. Download the trial and use it for 30 days... no restrictions.

.
to rip the DVDs just open the video_TS folder, copy the vob files onto your harddrive and rename them to mpg - then use a program to connect them if there is more than one and use your favorite WMV maker to watermark and export..
if you want to you can get a plugin to windows media encoder that watermarks the files as it exports the WMV...
thats what i normally do when i get DVD content..
I use a program called Roxio Easy Media Creator... It imports the video perfectly. I know it's a stupid program but it works really well.
Then for editing, I use a program called "Sony Vegas" for PC.
With Sony Vegas you can put in watermarks and things like that. It's very easy to do.
OK, I'm most interested in the plug-in for Windows Media Encoder that will water mark the files. That seems to be the best solution so far.
Anyone got a direction to point me on that?
