Phoenix Attendees: Program Owner or Affiliate?

The last convention I attended virtually everyone was a Program Owner. Period. Not open to trading traffic, not open to signing up for anyone else's affiliate programs. Business meetings went something like this:

"Hi, I'm so-and-so, sign up for my affiliate program!"
"If I promote your program, will you promote mine?"
"No, we don't promote anyone else's websites but our own."
"If I sign up for your program, can you at least link back to my site?"
"No, we don't link back unless you buy banners."

End of conversation - trip wasted.

I am a unique beast in that I have pay sites AND I promote other pay sites. Am I the only one still doing that?

Before I make up promotional materials for Phoenix, I want to know if anybody attending actually signs up for affiliate programs.

We do promote other sites in select niches.

we have a whole section on our sites to promote affiliates as long as its in the same type of niche as we have. look forward to meeting a load of you on the 27th

Mark, I think you're exaggerating a little. It really is NOT that difficult to make business connections.
I'm a program owner and sponsor of the phoenix forum.
I'm there with a pretty singular mission. To buy Xsells. WAY WAY more difficult than finding people to swap traffic with. You just work hard. I wouldn't miss the Forum for anything. If you can't get business done there, you shouldn't was't another dime going to ANY show. $0.02

Wow, it's great to hear that there really are sites willing to reciprocate. When we get to Phoenix, please introduce yourselves!

I think we're one of the culprits here.

We don't have any outside links.. not even for sale.

We've talked about having a blog with links to other sites and traffic trades but it's still sitting on that back burner simmering with all those other great ideas we've got but don't have time to get to since Fratpad has become such a juggernaut.

Don't stop bugging me, though..

That's really the problem. You really have to "work" people a bit at shows. Usually the last day is when I get most of my business done. It usually goes like this,

"Had a really great time over dinner the other night. I will start sending you traffic when I get back to Boston. Heard your traffic is some of the best in the biz..." Deal for traffic gets made.
