so what are the big affiliates one should look for? who are the persons to contact if you go some industry event?

Try looking online first for the sites you want to work with and see if they are listed in WHo's who.

You mean you are looking for the webmasters with the big traffic who can easily refer you 50-100 sales a month or something like that?
If so, finding them is not that hard. Simply checkout the big sites and go to their webmaster areas and save their email adresses or ICQ numbers and think of a smart way to convince them to promote you without having the feeling of being spammed with another crappy sponsor program.

most of the whales i know either pick sites to promote because they feel they can market them or else they are offered special stuff - usually higher payouts and/or more frequent payouts.
whales are in business to make money, so unless you can add to their bottom line, guys who make 50+ sales per day aren't likely to give that up to try some unknown program - and i don't blame them.
in our webcam community it isnt hard to make 50+ sales per day .... just one good visitor can bring you that ;-)
