questions on recruiting models

I just recently moved to San Francisco for a larger pool of models, but I made the mistake of publishing my first round of advertising with my number from the Sacramento area code. I'm only getting maybe 5 calls per day. In retrospect I think models are looking at the 916 area code and thinking "I don't really want to drive to Sacramento for modeling work..." before they pick up the phone. How costly do you think this mistake was?

Also, I'd like to get some ideas on where I should be searching for models besides through the newspapers. I'd like to be shooting every day of the week, and I think I need to make this happen one way or another.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Try doing things like flyering at Universities and Colleges, try handing out cards at bars.

I personally have cards with me at all times, and being a card-carrying metal head, I tend to meet up with all sorts of guys at shows and other places. When guys find out what I do, a lot of them are totally interested in modeling... They usually sober up the next day and chicken out, but not always.

Oddly enough, straight guys are more interested in modeling than gay guys... so don't just advertize in gay publications, and you might wanna make sure that the ad you've got spells out what they'll be doing at the shoot... if they're not sure if they'll be doing a solo jerk-off or having sex once they get there, they might be less likely to pick up the phone, and you also might want to make a small web page with some information about what you're looking for as well... guys will be more likely to check that out than make a call.... and give them the option of emailing you with a picture of themselves... for the guys that are a bit scared of getting rejected for whatever reason, it'll be easier for them to email and forget about it than to show up and have you say "no".

Seriously, we follow a similar path to Jasun, we DO advertise in the papers also (and your guess re the area code I think is spot on), but some of our best boys come from clubs, bars, off the beach and quite literally walking down the street.

I was the model manager for Pornication a few years back and I found boys everywhere I went: the gym, the grocery store, the mall....as Jasun said, there are hot guys everywhere in this world. Keep some cards with you and hand them out. Flyering at Universities is a GREAT way to get fresh, hot and EAGER (usually curious) talent...just be sure to get administration approval before posting...and try not to post anything too explicit. Otherwise you could be looking at some fines.

Right now I have ads in the SF Weekly, the Guardian, and the East Bay Express. I just added the BAR to the lineup yesterday, and it will run next Thursday.

When it comes to finding models they literally can be found anywhere and everywhere lol

Actually Gary and I tend to find some nice guys while hanging aound the airports waiting for connecting flights LOL

We usually know when the othr has spotted someone because the following words come out of our mouths..
