Basically, it checks your sites copy to see how targeted it is towards the surfer / customer reading your site text compared to how much you talk about yourself and your needs over theirs.

We all know that sites that are a 'hard sell' are less likely to promote confidence in consumers when it comes to them actually making a purchase, just as those sites who try to stroke their own ego can turn surfers / customers off.

Id speculate that it takes in to account the amount of times the pages uses specific words and spits out the percentages based on how often first, second and third person perspectives are used.

First Person Perspective - I, Me, My
Second Person Perspective - You, Your
Third Person Perspective - He, She, It, They

That certainly seems to be what it is based on from the initial glance i took at it :)
