When It Comes To Forum Promotion What Is Better?

Do you think it is better for someone promoting on message boards to have their signature files seen by starting their own threads on a regular basis or do you think that it is better for these individuals to respond to other peoples threads on a regular basis?

Im actually kind of torn on this myself, whilst to some extent i think that posting your own threads showing that you have a good working knowledge of a specific aspect of any given online business, i actually think there are more chances of exposure by replying to other peoples threads.

Your thoughts, do you think it is better for someone promoting themselves on industry message boards to start more of their own threads or to respond to other peoples threads?
