Is Saying Hip Gays an Insult?

totally offended...the term "hip" was used to refer to someone of exceptional taste or with an innate understanding of cutting-edge trends in fashion, art, and music, but since that term is outmoded, its use today would generally be used in a sarcastic or facetious manner. "Check out grandpa over there....he's totally "hip" to the internet and those "new-fangled" chat rooms, hahahaha"

I guess it would depend on how it was used...

'He is one of the hip gays' could be considered a compliment.

'He thinks he is one of the hip gays' could be considered an insult.
