That's how many emails were sent out per second in 2007, and 70% were spam.
I'd tend to say the 2008 and 2009 spam % figure is probably down, but then again, with all the spam blocking software, it's hard to say if it's more, less or the same.

Did you realize that 2 million per second is also how much the average GFYer makes? ;)

That is really an amazing figure! At least "spam" is a "green" form of advertising unlike "junk mail" that is actually made from paper and then burns fuel being physically delivered to a mail box...so god bless spam for helping save the planet!
Just hit the delete button...
on average, spam actually gets a sale at the rate of 1 for every 4.5 million emails....anyone want to do the maths?
let's see, 70% of 2 million is 1,400,000 spam emails per second.
24 hours = 86,400 seconds.
That comes out to 120,960,000,000 spam mails daily.
Divided by the 4.5 million = 26,880 sales per day.
yea, I could see living out of a mobile trailer and staying one step ahead of the law for thousands of dollars of income daily.
thats a lot of money being made from spam!
yup, and thats exactly why they do it and why spam is not going away anytime soon :(
It's weird that anyone would buy anything from a spam e-mail. Same goes for those adware sponsors...why would anyone buy something from a site that pops up whenever they boot up their computer thanks to a piece of malicious code that interferes with everything they do?
"Oh, man, these guys totally fucked up my computer and now I can't play WOW, but that ad for that dating site that pops up every time I check my e-mail is mighty convincing..."
