Paysite Pricing - This Works So Pay Attention...

Those of you who have multiple month pricing options on your join pages that DO NOT recurr, change that shit.

If you have a multi-month membership option that isnt recurring, after the multi-month price option, rebill the surfer at your regular monthly membership cost.

I guarantee that you will notice an increase in rebilling members using this option and you'll actually make a lot more money in the long run.

Im constantly amazed at how some program are losing money with even the basics such as recurring billing, sure have a non-recurring option if thats what work for you, but when you have a multi-month membership cost as the default pricing option on your join page, maximize the revenue potentials from that default option, dont have your default price one that doesnt rebill, that is just stupid $0.02

Your default pricing option on the join page should ALWAYS be one that rebills, there are NO exceptions to this rule.

i have seen a few of the big sponsors that dont do that like pridebucks has a 3 month non rebill option as the default for 69.95 also a few of the smaller programs that i think do not know how to work prices properly for affiliates on revenue share as well do this but they will put a stupidd 3 or 5 day trial for $7 first or even some i have seen with one month no rebilling on some sites.

PrideBucks routinely experiments with pricing. However, we have always found that offering a non-recurring multi-month membership out performs a recurring multi-month membership. Each time, we've made the 3-month membership recurring, the number of multi-month memberships take a nose dive. The best reasoning I have been able to come up with is many of 3-month members simply want a non-recurring option. They'd take a one-month non-recurring if it were available...but since it isn't on our sites they opt for the next best thing - 3-month non-recurring.

Its virtually impossible NOT to make more money with recurring multi-month memberships, everyone i talk to about this says the same thing, PPS programs, revshare programs, large and small.

When you are doing the 'experiments' with prices are you still leaving a non-recurring option on the price page? If so id seriously suggest the next time that you want to 'experiment' that you also remove that and still keep a multi-month recurring as your default.

I just disagree with you. Our testing has shown the opposite and we test extensively.

When we have made the 3-month recurring...we did not have a 3-month non recurring option...however, we did have a 6-month and 1 year non-recurring option (as we always do).

So you didnt test 'extensively' - If you didnt remove all non-recurring options, your statistics are worthless.

Its like McDonals offering both a BigMac and a Cheeseburger for the same price, what do you think most customers will end up buying?

By offering a non-recurring option, most surfers are going to choose that, even if they are going to be getting a great deal on recurring multi-month memberships.

Trust me, i have tested price points extensively over the past 4 yrs and offering a non-recurring option, even if it is priced almost $30 higher than a standard recurring monthly membership cost will get more signups just because it has 'non-recurring' next to it.... That doesnt mean you are making more money though, quite the opposite in fact, even though you hit them with a higher price point initially.

The whole business of porn is built on the recurring business model, not offering a recurring monthly or multi-month membership option as 'default' is crazy any program that has been around since the early 90's will tell you this $0.02

The 6-month and 12-month non-recurring options are almost negligible. They are there for people who have the money to thrown down. If everyone that would have bought a 3-month non-recurring swarmed over to the 6 or 12 month options, then I would be a very happy camper. As I said, when I put up a 3-month recurring option...the number of multi-month memberships falls... by around 75-80%.

The bottom line is your average member value. I wish everyone would pay $70-$150 at one pop. But not having my head up my ass is what makes me so good looking. Paysites average $60-80 for their average member value. Of course some make more and many make even less, but that is the range.

If a member is willing lay down $70 at one pop because its non-recurring, then I've already hit my mark. If that same person has to opt for a $30 monthly membership then I have to wait an additional 2 months and hopefully they recurr for their 3rd charge.

I'm completely there with you: multi-month options should be the default. It is basically suggestive selling. I'm just saying that in our testing we do not do as well when our multi-month options are recurring.

I have some friends (not webmasters) who tell me,
I dont understand the prices, 29.95 recurring and 39.95 non-recurring.
if you can cancel the recurring option, why is a non-recurring option more expensive? its because I cant cancel the recurring option?

These are the questions that people make me.

I have increased the sales and rebills to my paysites removing the non-recurring option.

I dont like promote paysites with non-recurring options, I think over 80% of sales are non-recurring, if the price is 39.95 you only get 19.97, you'll get more $$$ with PPS option.

I think a paysite with a lot of affiliates is more productive with non-recurring option, so, when the membership is expired and the member join again, the paysite owner get the 100% of this sales, not the affiliate.

I dont think non-recurring makes a program more productive, id actually say it makes a program more profitable because as you say, once that membership expires that is non-recurring, the surfer goes back and joins the site directly, cutting the affiliate payout out of the equation completely.

Im pretty sure we dont promote any programs that have non-recurring for this very reason.

We dont promote any of those sites as a company, not just because of the non-recurr thing, but also because surfers know about them already and all we'd be doing as an affiliate is cementing their brand further in to the minds of the surfer.

Go with some of the smaller sites, there are plenty about that have content that is just as good sites like Pierre Fitchs, etc, etc...

if the non recurring price isn't TOO much higher than the recurring price - say $10 or less - i get a lot more non recurring monthly signups. this might be useful for a site owner whose site has really poor retention or who needs to recoup their investment sooner.

btw, webnet, one of the reasons so many surfers sign up for the non recurring option even though it costs more is that there have been sites in the past that rebill even if you cancel for a variety of reasons. paying more for the non recurring option apparently gives those members peace of mind that they will not be rebilled, and also gives the webmasters a bit more money to make up for the fact that the membership won't rebill.

basschick, yes is true, but also a lot of surfers not understand the prices options.

As someone that was a surfer long before doing anything else, if I was forced to do recurring, I'd cancel within minutes and ride out the remainder.

My theory was that if I want to give you my money then I will decide when/if you get it and not the other way around.

I happily paid $3 to $5 more for non-recurring in order to not be inconvenienced with canceling.

I got this way after one too many sites promised the world and delivered shit.

How does Pierre convert? I signed up as an affiliate awhile back but just got around to doing a blog post the other day. My theory is that he should convert well, because he has so many fans, but many of them may not be aware that he has a personal site with lots of exclusive (and hot) updates.
