Obama's speech mentions gays in military

In his state of the union address last night, Obama called for more support for troops, veterans and their families and acknowledged that some are gay.

“And, yes, we know that some of them are gay. Starting this year, no American will be forbidden from serving the country they love because of who they love.”

News is that it will take several months to get the new rules written and certified before the ban will be lifted, but its good to see this is progressing.

Hrmmm....sounds like the perfect excuse to go buy a new cam and drop into the local barracks :-) But I wonder what would happen if they found their openly-gay army boys in porn videos LOL!!!!

I recall Active Duty having just that problem, and an article about an investigation back in 2001 stated "If investigators find that Marines were involved in "pornographic activity" they would likely face disciplinary action under the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) for charges including "bringing discredit upon the uniform and the service" and for conduct "not compatible" with service in the military, according to Marine officers."

As to being gay, it added "If determined to have any involvement in homosexual acts, it is also possible that those Marines would be in violation of the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy prohibiting any public declaration of a gay sexual preference"

Even with the "don't ask don't tell" removed from here on out, I would imagine that the first part about the Uniform Code of Military Justice would still be pertinent, and upheld.
