sales forcasts for groupon type sites
Looks like now is the perfect time to get into the groupon market, as sales are predicted to explode over the next 4 years. Sales from groupon-like sites hit $873 million in 2010, and according to estimates provided by marketing firm BIA/Kelsey, those numbers will hit somewhere in the $3.9 billion range by 2015
BIA/Kelsey indicates a number of variables will have an impact on the development of deal a day, such as growth in the number of cities/sites, registered users, transactions per year for the average user and the average price per transaction. They came out with two other sales projections for 2015 as well, a liberal estimate of $6.1 billion and a conservative estimate is $2.1 billion.
Either way, its pretty much guaranteed to get over $2 Billion! And groupon does not have a stronghold on this market yet, quite contrary, it is open to new competitors that specialize in niche markets. Have you heard of JDeal? They run out of New York and target Jewish buyers. They only launched 10 weeks ago and are already boasting about their 15,000 member reach!
Another site, GoodTwo, deals in fundraisers and causes. "GoodTwo provides a menu of local and national deals that fundraisers can pick from and market to their own lists for the use of fundraising."
So the market is wide open, and now is the time to hop in!
