gay.xxx sold for $1/2 Million

It was reported yesterday that gay.xxx has been purchased by Corbin Fisher for $US 1/2 Million. This is the largest price paid for a .xxx domain name to date, and is also the biggest price anyone has ever paid for a domain name in an extension that is not yet publicly open for registration.

Also reported was an interesting stat, so far .xxx domains are being snapped up at upto 40% of their .com equivalent values. Most other extensions go for less than 10 per cent of their .com version. You can read the full article at http://gay.gl/eZ

Well, this certainly looks like .xxx is becoming a HUGE success even before they have been publicly opened for registration. So much for the adult industry standing behind the anti-xxx stand.

Who did CF buy it from?

The company running the .xxx registrar is pre-selling certain domain names directly to a select group of companies.

Another nail in the coffin of Democracy of the Internet. And while some of us would enjoy having 1/2 thousand dollars here and there, CF has 1/2 million, to be a select group of companies able to have a select domain name.

Pity the consumer.
