London Olympics: 17000 athletes, 11000 computers

TheReg reported yesterday that the London 2012 Olympic computing equipment contract has been won by Taiwan-based Acer, who will be supplying the Olympics with 10,000 desktops, 1,000 laptops and 900 servers. The security gate scanners and info touch screens will also be supplied by Acer.

The Acer desktops – Veriton L670Gs – will be running Windows Vista, XP or Linux with either quad-core or dual-core Intel processors. Monitors are a compact 15 inches across.

The Notebooks are hefty TravelMate 6593Gs running on Windows 7, also with Intel dual core chips: Centrinos.

I like the Olympic construction pics so thought I would post them!

It is very expensive visiting, even living in, London now, and it will be out of reach for many during the Olympics themselves.

the pictures look very nice, i bet it will be a great olympics! when does it start?
