Blog Category Questions
How are you doing your blog categories? Is it niche based, site based, a mix of both, model names or some other arrangement?
... or do you even let the category option show on the sidebar?
Also ... Any opinions on whether putting posts into categories affects PR at all? I'm thinking the tags feature and tag cloud carries lots more weight in the SEO game.
-
I personally use both
I'm a category whore though!
-
A few sites I did early with lots of categories does just as well as sites where posts only have one.
I get SE traffic to tag pages and category pages that show the sponsor's name so I continue to use them.
-
ahhh --- I wondered how well using a sponsor's name would work, as I wasn't sure how many buyers really know what company is behind a particular site.
Or -- do you mean the SITE names are being picked up?
-
Think of your site as a book. Categories are the table of contents (the major themes unique to that site), and tags are the index at the back that catalogs all the little stuff that might be of interest. So a concept may legitimately be a category on one site and a tag on another site...

Hey
I'm agree with RawTop, in other words...I found this - http://en.support.wordpress.com/post...ories-vs-tags/
After comes the question of duplicate content with Categories and Tags - for this purpose you may find some good SEO plugins (or if you are a "hand writer": customize your robots.txt file)

Nice answer Rawtop!
Yes Bec, the Site Name, not sponsor/program name.

There may be other replies also, but you will not receive any more notifications until you visit the forum again.

Getting an email with that content: It means you are 'subscribed' to this thread and you will get email notifications when someone posts to it. Don't want the emails? Then go to your Customer Profile (the UserCP Link in top bar menu) and change your preferences and 'unsubscribe' to any threads.

There is a very good explanation here. How to use category and tags: it depends on what you sell maybe even more on what your arguments are.

Hey everyone...I'm so glad Bec brought this up I tend to be a bit of a category horder myself but recently I was thinking of using just a few main categories and then being more specific with my tags.
I will still create channels (website specific pages thought). Thanks for the info!
Love ya - Jay
