Insurance for Self Employed

Those of you doing this full time ... have you been able to pick up a decent health care policy that doesn't cost an arm and a leg? If so -- what company?

Whilst I'd like to throw in my 2c I fear that due to our very different health care systems in Australia it would be to no avail.

I however have a great policy with CBHS. (www.cbhs.com.au)

hey bec, i have blue cross...they have a program for self employed.
i think its called blue preferred...

I use BC/BS and I pay $296/month in Massachusetts. Keep in mind im single and have no health problems.
It might be cheaper where you lived. When I lived in Chicago I got a quote of $80/mo for the same coverage.

http://www.nase.org/ offers it also but I haven't investigated them.

I use blue cross blue shield of Georgia and I pay $280 a month. But I'm also 36 and a diabetic.. so I'm sure that makes it a tad higher for me.

It sure would be nice if us gay-partnered webmasters could get married. Then we could be included in our conventionally employed spouse's insurance program. :bomb:

Yea ... it would certainly solve my problem with insurance if I could legally marry Che, since she has insurance where she works.

I also found that you can add Dental for $35 a month, too.

LOL I found that same site this morning! I did read that as of 2002 we can take 70% of the premium as a tax deduction ... that makes those prices a little easier to swallow.

I am really happy with Humana (http://www.humana.com). I have their Individual Medical Plan. They also do not cost an arm and a leg. The deductable is I think $500.00.

Thanks for the link Chipmunk ... I did find those deductibles on many of the programs a real shocker ... like wow, who can afford that much if they're really sick and not working?
