Turnkey Gay Sites

Halfway through the thread you see a guy promoting his turnkey Gay sites and saying how successful they are... further down is a person who used his services and promotes Gay Turnkey sites.

I looked up her site on PuppyCash ( megahung ) and found it made 33 sales last month, and 28 the month before. Am I missing something? Is this considered successful in the turnkey gay site genre' or is it just a bunch of hype?

id never put anyone down for their accomplishments, however small, but i think all that turkey crap bullshit is misleading. its the same old thing that people have done for years... "buy my system and get rich" ....

in reality, buying the site 'turnkey' has nothing to do with his/her success. its just an easy way to buy a complete site.

basically someone has found a way to profit from making frontends for badpuppy.

The guy is straight and talking this and that about the Gay market. I just think it's interesting there is so much hype about 33 sales a month. From what I gather those 33 sales are split income.. and some might even be trials that are less then $7 before the cut is taken. Of course we don't know how many of the signups on the puppycash page are trials or full memberships.

On the front page of the turnkey sites website the guy says "The content we purchase for your members area will be unique and specifically fit the niche that you've chosen for your site." What the??? He says he's buying the content and it's also unique? I've seen no content on any of the turnkey sites he's created that's unique.. none!

Am I missing something? When I talked to him about it on another board he sent me an email asking what I had against him etc. and said he'd never respond to me in public chat. Huh? Is it just me or does it all seems a bit off?

P.S. About BadPuppy.. there are plenty of legitimate ways to make money with BadPuppy.

Well my personal feelings are that turnkey sites are a waste of time and money.

If a turnkey site cost you in excess of, lets say for arguments sake, $1000, that is $1000 that you could have used to build your own paysite with more than enough content to get some sales and rebills.

The problem with many turnkey solutions is that they are being offered to the 'newer' webmaster by those webmasters who have been in the industry a few years that the 'newer' webmasters have faith in.

To me, this would be just like me telling everyone on our community that a specific type of site worked best than any other and, the only way you could all promote it was by paying me for the privellage.

However, i will also be the first to admit that i have never even considered trying a turnkey solution so in reality whether they do offer value for money or not, im not 100% sure yet my gut feeling tells me they dont and, well my gut is usually right on things like that :)

Finally, at the end of the day, it all comes down to a new webmaster actually knowing how to market adult sites properly, regardless of the market / niche they are promoting and, for the most part, it takes in excess of 3-6 months to even begin to understand how to effectively market and profit from the online porn industry IMHO.

I have to agree with your outlook on this. At 33 sales a MONTH @ $17.50 per sale profit (taken from the websites promo page) you're looking at $577.50 profit after the cc comission.. then subtract the $150 monthly fee that the turnkey site charges and you're left with $427 for the month! Not to mention the $2995 the turnkey site charges for setup. So, realistically you're looking at 7 months before you break even and get to keep your $427 profit ( before taxes of course )

Remember.. this is based on his highest ranking turnkey site I found on PuppyCash.. maybe he has a higher ranking one I don't know about? But the ones I do know about make about half that per month! So you're looking at breaking even in over a year.. then if you kept the profits for another 14 months you could afford to make another site.. pay it off in 14 months.. and so on and so on and so on :-D

the straight webmasters peddling Gay porn seem extremely defensive about any questioning of their business practices.

Am I being overly sensitive here or is their reaction a bit off?

IMHO, turnkeys are a total waste of money...why would you ever pay someone several thousands of $ to lease a site where you own nothing and only earn a % of your revenues plus have to shell out monthly fees?

Like Lee said, take that $ and buy a domain name, a design and some site content (note you actually will own all this stuff, not just lease it) and have a go at it yourself.

If you were new.. and didn't know anything about the industry I can see how a turnkey site might be tempting.

I think that turn keys are sort of a waste. I have found that they do multiple ront ends, then if you do get any members, they get the same stuff that they has when they signed up for another turn key before. And I think that hurts cause it makes the surfers even more wary of joining.

I think the best bet is spend the money on exclusive content, have a decent front end that is honest about what they are gonna get, and people will sign up. Even with sites that have less content than the megasites, I get good rebills cause the people are waiting to see the next update and know they cant get it anywhere else.

At least that is my experience......

I have to agree with a lot of what has been said about turn keys. I think they prey on newbies who are lured in by the fact that everyone in the adult business makes buckets of money and hardly does any work. Right, we're all there, aren't we?

On the other hand, if you don't know the business, there's so much to learn. And these communities are pretty hard to crack into initially. Everyone is friendly on the surface, but at the same time, leary of newcomers because there are so many charltons and non-serious folk dropping by these places. So, I found that you really have to prove yourself serious before people will reach out in a more meaningful way.

I guess a turn key can help you learn some of the basics pretty quickly so you can move forward. But I imagine it isn't too long before you begin to realize that the turn key you bought wasn't such the good thing you thought it was.

And I took a look at some of them, they were full of pictures that are like four and five years old. That's just nasty. I think this kind of stuff give the biz a bad name, but I suppose this stuff goes on in every biz. It's too bad.

I agree. The whole reason this was even brought to my attention was because a subscriber emailed me and thanked me for not being a rip off site. After further emails back and forth to him I got the gist of what was going on so I subscribed to one to find out for myself.

These sites do make business more difficult for the rest of us by creating subscribers that are much more weary of subscribing again. That's why on my site I show everything outside that the subscriber will see inside so there are no suprises.

It's not difficult for a turnkey site owner to make their site legitimate. They would start by showing outside exactly what's inside. By showing the customer what you have to offer inside they will not be disapointed and cancel/chargeback their membership.
