Content Management Systems

I realize there are myriad CMS systems out there, my question is has anyone been able to succesfully run an adult site using mostly open source modules?

I have been looking at postnuke, and wondering why cant I use that to make a small pay site? My concept is slightly different than most, offering content, messaging and chat to local guys, while also offering content for sale to other sites, and additionally offering some premium galleries to the regular site visitors. I am not looking to become some huge site like the big players, and it seems like open source might be the way to go for my site.

As pornographic websites are often targets of hack attempts, I would highly suggest not using a solution as PostNuke. As great of functionality from a content standpoint is concerned, if people use it and know that the particular install is vulnerable to any number of exploits, your pay site will not last long.

Consider the downtime that you may have to deal with if an incident does occour. Although I am a very big fan of open source in general, I believe that it would be a better idea to partner with an actual company that provides a CMS. This is for a couple of different reasons, mainly because they are often available at the drop of a hat to rectify the problem.

I have worked with a gentleman named... geeze, can't remember the name. He has a product called Adult Web Ware (www.adultwebware.com), and can be contacted at sales at adultwebware.com. His CMS, although a bit pricy to start out with, is very complete, and very well worth the price.

Personally, I would rather trust an open-source solution that is the combined efforts of hundreds of developers, than some fly-by-night content management system made specifically for the adult entertainment business. The link that dant just provided is a perfect example. "Site Is Being Uploaded", blah blah blah. It's a fancy way of saying "If you have problems right now you're screwed. I may still be in business, I may not. This page will help to keep you guessing".

From a security standpoint, there are any number of things that you can do from the server end to help mitigate any problems that might exist in any of the code that you're running. Most hosting providers already have these measures in place to help protect themselves from their webmasters anyway. And again, I'd rather trust the security of my site to a large development team, than to whatever is behind these adult-market specific companies.

I can code, so I have some advantage there. But for my first site, I am using a HEAVILY modified version of Coppermine. With some tweaking it does the trick nicely.
