Why Has Phishing Increased All Of A Sudden?

Take a look at the link above, it seems that as of late, Phishing has increased drastically over the past couple of months.

Suntrust, Ebay, Joker, Walmart to name a few of the companies whose clients have been targetted.

Anyone got any theories as to why this sudden increase in illegal activity has occured?

I just dont get it.

I've been getting tons of Suntrust and Citi emails. Bastards!

a few people did it & had success, so they step up their efforts, thus creating an appearance of success to other criminals, thus creating copycats...

I keep getting eBay and Citibank phishing messages. I forward the eBay ones to spoof@ebay.com. I just ignore the Citibank messages since my account is with Bank of America.

lots of Citi and Suntrust emails too, but I bank at neither :)

People are finding out how easy it is to fool the public and uneducated computer users, so are taking advantage of it.
