I posted on another board and thought I'd share it here.

I have a pay site, a hub and tgp's. I keep hearing things like, "you need to submit your site to toplist, directories and start trading traffic. Tell me if this is right...Since my HUB and TGP's lead back to my pay site, I should be submitting my Hub and TGP's to Toplist and directories not my pay site. This is all very confusing to me and I keep thinking that eventually this part will click and I'll know what your talking about. But the truth is, I have not the first clue. I don't even know if I've ever seen what a top list or directory looks like. I probably have but didn't know what I was looking at.

What info do I need to submit my site? Am I submitting my pay site, my TGP's or Hub? If I'm submitting and then one asks for a reciprocal link, where do I put it? HOW do I put in a reciprocal link? Do I need some sort of back door access to my site and Hub? I obviously can't go to my site and paste it on there or can I? Is a reciprocal link and a banner the same thing? If I'm to be submitting all three then is there a special name that correlates to submitting a Hub or TGP or Paysite? Something that identifies which of my sites goes where. I don't want to make the mistake of putting my paysite on a list for TGP's so how do I know the difference.

Good question and a one that many newer webmasters / webmistresses ask.

For the most part you acually dont need to submit your site anywhere as nowadays most search engines are capable of finding links themselves but, with that said, you may want to do something as simple as a link exchange between your TGP / Hub and someone elses. This will ensure that your site / sites will be crawled by the search engines (as long as the persons site you link with is already listed).

Search engines, especially Google, actually give you a much higher ranking calculation if they are able to find your site on their own without you submitting it directly to them and Google specifically, will take 'points' away from your site if you do submit it to them directly.

Another alternative if a link exchange isnt a viable option is to have one of your sites submitted to the Open Directory over at http://www.dmoz.org/adult/ this is actually used by and crawled by Google on a regular basis and, if you get listed in Dmoz or Google pretty much every other search engine WILL list you eventually too :)

The most important thing to remember however is that having your site listed or even submitted is worthless if you havent properly understood how to optimize your site for the search engines, there are plenty of articles on SEO you can find if you take a few minutes to look for them which will give you a great deal of information when it comes to the fundamental basics of SEO.

Whatever route you decide to do however, make sure you dont pay to have your site listed, it really isnt necessary in todays day and age, if i can get top rankings in Google after 4 days of launcing a new site, pretty much anyone can, you just have t do a little reearch first and figure out the basic rules of SEO which, takes all of 30-60 minutes :)

I went to DMOZ and looked around. It was a little complicated for me. After I clicked on Image Gallery it took me to another page where it lists AVS, Free Site and Member then below that more descriptive words. I click on Gay, Lesbian and Bisexual. It takes me to another page with more options and I clicked on Gay then Hardcore. Now the words AVS, FREE and MEMBER pop up again but have numbers next to them. Both Free and AVS have numbers but MEMBER does not.

Does this mean I should not submit my pay site to DMOZ, just my TGP's? One more question, is my HUB the same as my TGP's? Whenever I think of my HUB I picture a Mother Ship. Hehehe, I have to stop watching Sci-fi.

Hey Mama,

I think of my hub as my main site, everything else I do sends traffic there. Mega Hung is your hub, the main site you want to sell. BTW, it's possible to have more than one hub.

So submit your site to DMOZ. BTW, you can try submitting it, but good fucking luck getting it listed. In five years of web design, I've never managed to get a site (adult or non-adult) listed with DMOZ. Now at this point 45,000 people from GWW will chime in that they got their sites listed in a snap. :mental:

DMOZ is a directory that I believe still works on a largely volunteer basis. What that means is that if I were into stamp collecting, I could volunteer to be the editor for any sites submitted in that category. But because it's volunteer, it's painfully ineffective. I gave up worrying about it and I have absolutely no problem getting good rankings and traffic from Google.

I would suggest getting your site listed at Men on the Net, Hunk Hunker, SindbadBookmarks, Just Us Boys. You will generally speaking need to put a button on your site, I'd suggest at the bottom of your main page. As far as the others of hundreds, it's a crap shoot. You'll never hear from many of them in spite you having put a button on your site, others won't send you much traffic, still a few more will disappear within a few weeks of you submitting your site. I suggest trying the bigger ones that I listed and keeping the number of buttons on your page limited, otherwise, you'll just look like the Vegas strip.

I might be wrong, but once you submit a gallery to a TGP there's not really much more to do. BTW, TGPs are not a one-off thing. You make a gallery, you submit it to 50 or so good TGPs, you see who lists it, you get traffic. Repeat process every day for the rest of your life. :)

TGPs bring a ton of traffic, but not a great number of buyers. MamaKity, I'd suggest parking the TGP thing for the moment, there are other more effective ways for you to spend your energy, especially since you're just learning Dreamweaver, too. TGP traffic takes some skill and a lot of experimentation to make it work. I didn't submit my first TGP gallery for 1 year after I launched my first site, and then, I went through about five months of playing around before I really started to figure things out. Until you get some basic Dreamweaver/HTML skills down, you'll find TGPs incredibly difficult, and in fact, you might get yourself on a blacklist if you don't handle things properly. Once you've learned how to put together a gallery, start playing with TGPs.

This is an example of an AVS hubsite. This is where I list all of my U*G*A*S sites. A hub site is merely an index of all of your sites.

You submit a site like this to a directory like this. Justusboys accepts AVS and Free sites. A recip link is usually a button about 120x60 pixels like this...

Be sure to read the directory's requirements. Some want their recip above the enter link.


This is a TGP (Thumbnail Gallery Post). Other webmasters submit their galleries to get listed. It's similar to a directory, but the links to your galleries usually have a short life. Many times your gallery is moved to an archive page after a very short time and it will receive very little traffic after that.

Some of the big TGP's like The Hun will send you many thousands of hits in one day, so be sure to have plenty of bandwidth to spare. It can be very difficult to get accepted by some TGP's and many require you to have a partner account (they don't accept galleries until you have been pre-screened).

Fake TGP's are like this . This is my fake TGP and all of the galleries are FHG's (Free Hosted Galleries) that are provided by different sponsors. No gallery submissions are accepted from other webmasters, but the links are still updated everyday.


Top Lists... hmm, does anyone still bother with these annoying surfer traps? Didn't they disappear at the same time as Pic Posts? Actually D-bear was experimenting with a top list a while back... maybe he has some insight.


A couple of other traffic sources that you didn't mention are Blogs, Yahoo/MSN groups and Webrings... although webrings seem to have gone the way of top lists and pic posts.



All of the above is just really hot air, lol. But I hope you can find some value in it. The best thing you can do is act like a surfer and follow different recips and links around to see where they take you. Before I started being an adult webmaster, I was a vetern porn surfer, so much of this stuff came naturally to me. But if you have never been a porn surfer before, much of this stuff is just plain confusing.

Yeah, I think I was booted out because you and all my buds kept clicking the button to help me get to the top of the top list. :)

I got nothing from them anyway. I think most top lists are just traps to keep traffic circulating around the top list owner's sites. I don't think I saw a single visitor from that top list.

The numbers beside the words "AVS", "FREE" and "MEMBER" refer to the number of websites DMOZ has listed in that part of the directory or category. If you click on the "MEMBER" link you will go further into the directory and find all sorts of gay membership sites.

So yes, by all means submit your pay site to DMOZ.

Like the other guys have said, sometimes you get lucky and get in sometimes you don't.

Personally, about 25% of the sites that I've ever submitted to DMOZ have actually made it in. The rest I don't worry about but I do tend to try re-submitting every 6 months to a year -- depends/sometimes.
