Redirect 301 /directory/page.htm http://www.mydomain.com/page.html
Add the following meta tag to your old page name and put the URL you want it to go to.
meta http-equiv="Refresh" content="0; url=YOUR URL HERE"
You've gotta put the < and > around it, but I had to take them out cuz the page kept reloading. LOL
I don't know that I would use the javascript to redirect things. Search engines tend to think that your trying to pull something.

There are also a couple of tutorials in that section of the community forums, do a search for 'htaccess' and you should find a few different options that will assist you with this :)
