Upsell or Not?

I'm in a bit of a quandry. I am trying to decide if I should offer video on demand and/or pay per mintue cams as an upsell for my members. I know some people do it successfully, but I'm not sure if its worth it.

If a member is paying $24.95 a month for access, do they bitch if they have to pay extra for additional stuff? I have been trying to think this out for weeks and weeks and just can't make the decision.

Is it better to offer those types of products on free or AVS sites only?

If you offer upsells to your members, do you think its worth it?

I would definetly recommend it. It adds more to your site and usually pay per view are great money makers. Our members don't seem to mine the couple of them we have.

Im definately not going to tell you upsells are not good for members for obvious reasons. But my objective opinion would be that adding free interaction to your members will definately keep them recurring, the pictures and the videos are one thing but if they can actually speak with someone and 'make friends' in your paysite thats definately not to be neglected. I think live chats should be used simply as content. It does have a bonus if your members spend but the main goal is to offer them as much as possible for what they are paying for. Keep in mind that they wont have to pay for the preview, so who will complain ? well thats the case for our feeds at least.

We are also coming up with a product that will be for paysites only, basically keep the video full size whenever the models are in a private show, this will give paysites even more additional content without focusing as much on the upsell.

if the upsell offers something new and different then I say go for it - especially if you can give some new free stuff to tease them into it. If you are thinking of upselling what was already included for free, I would think you would have a lot of unhappy members.

In the past, the companies I worked with up sold all sorts of things. (Toys, videos, private shows mostly) No one really complained about it, and it did quite well. I honestly would say add the upsells to your site.
