Can any coders work out how to do this?

I'm promoting Sureflix's VoD system, mainly because they have one studio that makes films with my models. These aren't available anywhere else.

When people see the models on my site, I want them to click a little link that says "see more of George here" and then sends them to the relevant films on the Sureflix site.

Easy enough, right?

Noooooo! In between the link and the video pages, Sureflix asks surfers to customise the site before they can proceed. So people are surfing my twink site, click to see a twink video, go to a twink branded site... and then get an ugly page asking if they're into bears, muscle guys, latinos or twinks! My research has shown they think they've clicked the wrong link and they don't proceed any further. I spoke to another partner who has had the same problem.

The whole point of the Sureflix system is that it's branded. My surfers click from BritishTwinks.com to BritishTwinks.TV and they obviously want Twinks.

This "customise the site" page only appears once - the first time. A cookie is dropped then. I asked the guys at Sureflix if I could just drop a cookie on my site and I think they'll let me do that if only I can work out how to do it.

Does anyone know about this stuff?

Is it a php site you're tryin to do the setcookie with?

This won't work.

You can't generate a cookie from your server to a user, that can be read by their server when the user passes through. These are called third-party cookies, and virtually every browser out there denies them by default.

What you need to do, is ask them to integrate a variable that you can pass through in the URL that auto-selects this option for them if they don't have a cookie set, aka http://www.URL.com/?twink or something similar.

Another solution would be for them to detect the referring URL, and automatically set a "twink" cookie if they see the user's coming from you. The first solution, however, would allow them to easily open this type of setup to all of their affiliates.

Ah, I see. That makes sense.

They won't change anything their end so I guess we can't progress. Shame.

Are you sure? I promote the Eurocreme boys like crazy on my site... and then link into whatever page on Sureflixxx I want. On Spyboy, I link right to it - http://www.friskyfans.org/reviews/spyboy.htm

I also figured out the code to link into an entire studio if you need that.

I don't want to rain on anyone's parade but Steve... I think the reason you're under the impression you're linking directly thru to the movie is because you already have the cookie installed.

And Chris, you too have the cookie. So when you checked Steve's page, you went through to the movie page as well.

I didn't have the cookie, and when I clicked on Steve's link I still got sent to that landing page with the twinks muscle daddies stuff and had to select one of those in order to get thru to the actual movie page.

I deleted all cookies off my machine before I tried it and I didn't get the warning.

Hmmmm.

Ah, but I had a previous browser open - I think that skewed it.

When I shut everything down and cleared the cookies again, and then loaded Steve's site afresh, I got the warning page too.

I'll email the SureFlicks team about this.

It is definitely confusing to a general surfer. NakedSword does the same thing: if you link to an inside page of their site, the surfer will be first presented with a busy, completely off the subject page with disclaimers and unrelated photos. At first glance, it does look like they were sent to something unrelated.

TLAvideo does this in a way that is not as confusing. Their First-Timers page is a clear Enter/Leave choice, and it even mentions the name of the movie that I am linking to.
