Now, it bugs me too when I send an email to someone and don't hear back. But I've long since overcome taking personal offense to it. People get busy. People aren't interested. People don't get the e-mail because of filters or whatever else. So I live. So on the one hand I'm somewhat sympathetic towards him. I did in fact read his first email (sent 8 days ago, not a "couple of weeks", mind you). But was recovering from Phoenix. Tried to load his site and it loaded so slow I didn't have time to navigate through the tour and wait 1-2 minutes for each page to fully load so told myself I'd check it out later in the hopes he was having hosting issues and they'd be worked out by then but never got around to it. And so yeah, he didn't hear a response at all so it's understandable he'd be a lil peeved.

I guess I'm just totally not decent! =O And I am pretty busy "shilling" for my own sites. Business ain't charity, and so I spend a good amount of time pushing my own websites and those of existing sponsors whose websites actually load and with whom I have existing relationships. I didn't get the memo that said I was obligated to promote any and everyone who ever sent me an email. doh!

Yeah cuz the grownup thing to do is get all pissy and whiny when someone doesn't write back to ya. It's amazing how in the span of 2 emails he can go from super-nice and professional businessman proposing a relationship to bitter and angry insult-hurler that hates my site and everything it stands for, yet I'm the one who needs to be a grownup businessman. Learn to deal with you don't hear back from someone!

Anyways. That's my rant for this hour :D

I did take a peek at his site just now and force myself to sit through the painfully long load times to see what it had to offer. Some hotties on there. But on this world-wide-web of infinite numbers of sites with infinite numbers of hot guys on them... I don't think I'll be gettin around to promoting his. Though I wish him well :D

It's pretty sad when someone gets so bent out of shape over the little things in life. Honestly, if someone doesn't get back to me, in the process of waiting I (generally) will forget I even emailed them. So every reply is a surprize! If it's important, I'll make a phone call to 'follow up' with the previously unreplied email, which by my definition is the 'businessman' thing to do.

All jokes aside, I look at it this way: If they don't want to put enough effort into a reply, it's probably not a relationship I wish to persue anyway. Business, or personal. So either way it's not worth getting the panties in a bunch. :)

If I got a note like that from someone, I think I'd tell them to shove it.

lol I do that too. Then I have to sort through my "Sent" folder to try and find out what the original email I sent them was about if they don't quote it in their reply.

I wanted to tell him to shove it but instead I wrote out a nice long reply. And even avoided being sarcastic or mean. Mostly cuz I'm curious how he'll respond. But I just mentioned that the address he emailed gets 100+ emails (from surfers mostly but also many webmasters and people proposing business) and so it often takes at least a week to be sure all get responded to. And that he's gotta be open to the possibility that sometimes circumstances lead to it taking awhile for people to get back to him rather than everyone who doesn't respond in what he feels is a timely fashion being out to get him.

Once I did actually manage to get his site loaded up in decent time (he's got his porn site hosted on GoDaddy) and he got his Visa approval (doesn't have it yet)... he's got some hotties in the tour (though almost all the updates say "coming soon" and so doesn't seem there's much on it live) I mighta given promoting it a try. But... not anymore. If that's who is behind it all.

Aww that person was kind of mean to you. I applaud your finding humor in situations like these and being calm about it. But geez, some people are just too stressed out they burst over un answered emails. tsk tsk.

I would like to believe that one "errant" website owner failing to reply to an e-mail was not enough to send this guy over the edge. Perhaps I'm being too charitable, but I think the guy has a point and that is: It's too difficult to get a response from website owners. It's the biggest pet peeve I have with this industry right now and I wish we could figure out a way to fix it.

I figure that when someone e-mails me and wants to promote my site, I pretty much have to drop everything to take care of this. So, I expect the same when I contact site owners. But, more often than not, I have to send a second or third or fourth e-mail. Usually I just resort to posting on a board somewhere, which often erks the site owner, and I've heard these people say, "Why don't people just contact me directly." You can't even rely on sending people PM's here because so many people don't remember to check their private messages and they don't have the notification trigger set.

Now, jumping all over Brian in a second e-mail isn't a great way to start a relationship. And chewing out a webmaster for not visiting your site, which for all intents and purposes is broken, is pretty piss poor, too. And if I were Brian, I probably would have done exactly the same thing. Like I said, I'd like to think that the e-mailer is so frustrated in not getting replies from dozens of websites, like me, that he just finally flipped and pulled a "look mother fucker." (I still have to tell that story.)

I recently contacted a bear site for the fourth time. Under normal circumstances, I would have said a long time ago (to myself), "Fuck you, if you don't want me to help you make money, I'll find someone who does." The problem is, however, that there aren't 5,000 good quality bear sites just sitting around waiting for my traffic. And not promoting a really good site means less money in my pocket. So sometimes I have to be persistent, which makes me feel as if I'm begging. This last time I simply added at the end of my note, "I've tried e-mailing you several times in the past, could you please do me the courtesy of replying one way or another to this e-mail." That was enough to get me a reply. The e-mailer in Brian's case might have tried the same thing. But I find the Internet has created this blast-him-to-smithereens kind of culture.

Isn't it funny though that now, more than ever, we are more connected. We have land phones, cell phones, e-mail, websites, palm pilots and pda's, pagers, laptops, call waiting, and call forwarding and yet it can still be so difficult to get a hold of someone. And I think that we all forget that in this instant, quick society in which we live, that oftentimes things don't move at our pace. I sure wish we in this business could figure out a way around this, I spend so much time chasing people.

it's unfortunate some people get alittle "perturbed" in this "instant" world of "instant-messaging" ( some people actually live on this thing! ) and then again some people just get "perturbed" waiting for a waiter!..ohh wait a minute , that's me! :goof:
i wouldn't take the email to heart ( unless of course it was from titan media and then i would say you f**king blew it! ) your not going to please everyone ( i certainly don't here ) and it's best to "think it over" v.s making a decision that would cost you in the end.

Michael... don't you think perhaps people being a bit less than fully responsive could actually be a blessing in disguise?

It might just be what keeps us from wasting time on a shitload of different things we shouldn't be doing anyways, and enables us to focus on working with the people that do respond.

BTW I sent him my nice reply and have yet to hear back. For shits and giggles maybe I'll send a pissy email if I don't hear back from him in 7 days. :eek:

Yeah, BD, I agree with you, it's a good point. We all get a lot of e-mail and a great deal of it is from pie in the sky kind of people. I wish more people employeed spam filtering software like Spam Arrest. At least when I respond to one of those things I feel as though my message is at least hitting their inbox.

Update - I wrote back a nice long e-mail explaining why there's often a delay in responding to initial e-mail receipts but... he never responded to my response. LOL :D
