msn prefers iis hosted sites

just read an article about a guy that did searches on google and msn and has concluded that msn favours sites hosted on iis servers:

"On the whole is seems that the MSN search engine is indeed placing IIS hosted sites higher in the results more frequently than other webservers. Frequently the MSN search is placing more IIS servers in the important top 10 results than Google even where result sets from a query have actually returned fewer IIS servers overall on MSN."

this does not surprise me, ms is up to its old tricks.

Ok, I give up. What's an IIS server?

You get that "spam" also from WebProWorld as well?

Basically the program that comes on Windows to host websites

internet information server - its the expensive proggie from ms that you need to run sites on a win server.

wow that is very interesting. We used to be on an IIS server for quite some time. It was nice though because I could go in and do anything I wanted. It sucked though because it would go down in the middle of the night and would not restart and I would have to drive 30 minutes away to go reboot it. It was just a server closet so it was not monitored. Ahh the good ole days.

:) And I could not even tell you one thing about hosting a an *NIX box. Except maybe you need to SSH into there - and I think that is the same thing as TS. But I have no idea!

I have been an MCSE (microsoft certified systems engineer) since the days of windows for workgroups 3.11, but I tell ya linux servers kick ass and are a lot less work and worry to keep secured and online.

I have been noticing some weird SE results from MSN for the last 2 months. Like I come up #1 for the phrase “free gay movies”. To bad it’s sending surfer traffic to a webmaster program. lol

Andy: congrats you have "wiggled" yourself into some MSN results on an adult search term! Mesmerotic is probably not specifically tagged as "ADULT" --- so it will enjoy some MSN search engine results.

Well MSNbot crawls FriskyFans all the time, but I sure as hell do not know where it sticks the page results. My searches for phrases on the adult-tagged site seems to show no results.

Google seems to have a much lighter adult filter.

However, the theory that MSN like IIS servers may be true. I use a IIS 6.0 to serve my websites. Texascooking ranks wonderfully on terms.... I am number one on MSN for fiestaware --- a placement I would relish on Google.
