So we have spoken to a couple of different people about this already and it seems there is a wide range of opinions when it comes to WHERE the 2257 info on DVDs should appear.
Does anyone know where to find a 'legal' answer as to where 2257 info needs to be placed on a DVD?
Failing that, i think we're going to end up putting it on the cover, the credits and the dvd itself just to make sure we have all our bases covered LOL

I can not tell you that 99% of the dvd's that come in are on the back cover and most of the time at the beggining of the movie.
yes ive seen the same.

We put the 2257 information on the cover, the video and the DVD itself.

It's probably best to put the 2257 info on the cover and the dvd. that
way, if they're separated, the 2257 info is still on the dvd.

Sec. 75.8 Location of the statement.
All books, magazines, and periodicals shall contain the statement
required in Sec. 75.6 or suggested in Sec. 75.7 either on the first
page that appears after the front cover or on the page on which
copyright information appears. In any film or videotape which contains
end credits for the production, direction, distribution, or other
activity in connection with the film or videotape, the statement
referred to in Sec. 75.6 or Sec. 75.7 shall be presented at the end of
the end titles or final credits and shall be displayed for a sufficient
duration to be capable of being read by the average viewer. Any other
film or videotape shall contain the required statement within one minute
from the start of the film or videotape, and before the opening scene,
and shall display the statement for a sufficient duration to be read by
the average viewer. For all other categories not otherwise mentioned in
this section, the statement is to be prominently displayed consistent
with the manner of display required for the aforementioned categories.
According to the law, you are required to put 2257 info in the end credits if the video contains end credits, or within the first minute if it does not have end credits. All other placements are just CYA.
I thought I'd remembered something about the proposed new regs requiring the text to be black on a white background... but I don't see that in the regs Chad posted, so maybe it was just somebody's opinion. I do remember changing ours from white-on-black or white-on-blue just to cover our asses...

What I posted is from the current regulation, in effect right now. The wording from the proposals is a little different, but this is what applies today.
Which begs the question, "Will I have to go back and change stuff on my old work?" The answer is, most likely, NO. New regulations will apply only to works produced after a certain date, which should be no earlier than 30 days after first publication of the rules in the Federal Register.
So, as long as what you produce now complies with what I posted, you are fine. As things change, trust me to keep you posted!
i'd wait till the new regs are public before making any decisions.
funny they want the 2257 info on the end credit - in a vhs, it would be annoying to find it.
