Do you use a pop-up killer killer on your exit consoles? In other words, do you employ scripts that kill the pop-up killers so your exit console gets through anyway?

Michael
Pop-up killer on the console itself? Not sure what you are saying?
edited my original question
Ah, so a pop-up killer killer.
But seriously, why try to push something in surfers faces when they don't want to see it? I know how sensitive you are about keeping your surfers happy. Why try to piss them off?
I have never used Pop-ups and I hope I never have too, I do see the frustration with viewers wanting to make you shoving things in their faces, but I don’t see it as every effective and leading too most people being afraid to even look at your tour.
I have not found any code that will kill the firefox popup killer (except dhtml, which isn't really a popup)....but I have found a couple of sites that are doing it recently and I have bookmarked them to go thieve their code.
And yes, I think its fine to do a controlled popup or two (controlled meaning they don't take over your screen, bookmarks, backbuttons, etc), especially on sites that give away free porn...after all you want to make free porn as annoying as possible to convince your surfers to shell out a few bucks :$$$:
cheers,
Luke

.
I meant more like TGP, linklists or blog sites that you own, not freesites that you submit to linklists.

yes, we do.
Sales from exit consoles are delicious (which tells me that 'visiors' really do not mind the so-called 'intrusion').

paco, you definately need to PM me that code
maxpower, if you are only doing freesites and not running linkists, blogs, tgp sites, etc, then you are missing out on a lot of traffic and opportunity. IMHO, its about empire building. You need to keep building more and more sites with different traffic methods on them (hopefully build them with scripts to make them fully or mostly automated). I have a POTD site that I setup ages ago, its fully automated and gets very little traffic but it does get a few sales a year, which more than covers off the $8 domain rego fee. Build it and they will come!
cheers,
Luke
Well I just don’t see where I am going to get traffic to the sites from, and a Pic Pist site and a directory will take much longer to create than a free/AVS site making the few sales a year is not worth the trouble. If it take me a week to create one site and I get 5 sales a year from that site maybe, how am I going to eat? Its all fine if you just doing that stuff on the side for some gas money or something but, I am sure in the end you would make a few bucks, but damn a few bucks after the bandwidth ECT cost is not going to do it.
think of the larger picture, mate! It takes one hour of time to give you a 500% profit every year. Of course one site is small money, use it as a model and think outside the box you are stuck in.
No offense Paco... you know I love you. But massivecocks.com is pop-up mess! Console on enter, another console when you close that and yet another console when you close that one and then a trial offer when you leave the sign-up page that opens a new window that does some kind of trick that blinks between the sign-up page and the tour. Very annoying!Quote:

I just really only see 2 winners in this, the domain registry people and the hosting people, me not being on of them I just don’t get it. I do have a AVS directory, but I can really only provide enough traffic to one directory to be able to do anything at all.

PUH LEEZ ... honey buns, I am not offend - most of the things you'd say, have said, or even think about me would not offend me (well, except for that one time you said my bed would be boring- I was crushed) ... because I do love you!Quote:

If it were up to me, there would be only one console, on exit - sales are too good to have none!
Pssst!Quote:

Okay, since I started the thread, can I get PM'd, too?
As far as giving pop-ups to surfers who don't want them ... well, I used to believe that we should honour that. Yes, xstr8guy, I don't want to piss surfers off, but how many people just come to my site, browse around through the endless maze, come back week after week, never buy anything, they're chewing up bandwidth.
I'm in this business to make money. And I think one pop-up on a surfer leaving a join page is not excessive or unreasonable. I think an exit-console chain and pop-unders, etc (the Top Bucks Tactic, as I call it) is excessive.
And to play devil's advocate, yes surfers said they didn't want to pay for porn either, but lots of them are paying for it. Remember the backlash on the newsgroups when AVS sites started back in the mid-90s? They scream about pop-ups and yet they still buy off of them. So why shouldn't we keep giving them pop-ups if they work?
Michael

I am not able to assist you with the details (not my forte), but I am sure you &/or Luke will be able to figure it out.
I will PM yah in a minute.

oh Paco pm me that also :sun: thanks
the code seems to only work when a person clicks a link on your site, plus you need to use tags in your a href codes and enclose it in script parentheses. Its an interesting solution, but still not the "ideal" one that I have been looking for, ie, one that automatically does a pop-under upon leaving your site or upon closing your browser. I have code that works with ie, but just not firefox. And I know it exists because there are some sites out there that do it. I gotta go hunt for them so we can beat this dead horse LOL!!!
Sorry, Luke - I truly hope it did not waste your time.Quote:

Is there anyone from Topbucks around, they seem to be the masters at pop-ups?
I'd like to get my exit console hoping, so if anyone can help, I'd appreciate it.
Cheers
Michael
ask Bec about this, its been an ongoing quest of mine to waste my time trying to figure this one out LOL!!! Seriously, you did not waste my time, every time I run into one of these I learn a bit more.Quote:

Not sure what I can contribute. As I see sites that are managing to get a popup working when I'm using Firefox, I try to view the source and figure out what they've used. I also spent a good portion of one day trying to hunt for a hack, and of course the search engine wanted to give me sites and forums talking about how to stop the popups, not how to break thru the browser block!
One thing I am seeing that looks to work regardless of browser is the floating banners. There is at least one adult program that has them available in their tools, and I'll be damned if I can remember who at the moment. If I recall, I'll post and perhaps we can grab one up and try it on a site and check it in multiple browsers. Floating Ads has a tutorial about them. Hotscripts only turned up one and you need .asp on a Windows server to use it and about $700 you don't need at the moment.
Using the search engine and doing a "floating ad script" for term should get you a lot of other places to look at avail scripts and tutorials.
Bec, I didn't mean to ask you where to find a script, I meant to ask you about my obsessive compulsive behaviour over the last 6 months on this topic LOL!!!
Ah ......yep -- you've definately obsessed ... LOLQuote:

Thanks for the info basschick but I'm not looking for a console that pops upon entering a site. I only want to pop a console when someone tries to leave the join page.Quote:
