i've seen lots of sites pulled down for copyright violation over my 9 years on the web. it's nothing new.

Actually no..I don't see the correlation at all.
Remember Napster? That got shut down..what ..3 years ago?
Wasn't about 2257..it was about copyright infringement.
And there have been a LOT of bit torrent sites shut down over the last year or so.
