This is all so unreal. My thoughts and prayers go out to all those who live there or have family and friends there. And after thinking of the tragedy of the people, think of all the historical buildings and art that might get ruined. I've never been but I've heard it's a beautiful city. I hope there won't be too much damage and people can return to their homes soon. :(

One bright spot in face of terrible tragedy. The rest of the story is too horrible to copy here but I'm terribly sad now. I hope people are able to get to safety. :(
Earlier today, I was getting the impression from the news that NO was spared much of the devastation. But it doesn't appear to be so. The French Quarter looks like it survived with relatively minor damage. But the FQ is only a small portion of a big city. The other areas look totally wrecked.
As the Governor of LA said, "New Orleans is a bowl and it is currently filled with water". I didn't know this but the French Quarter is the highest spot in New Orleans which, I guess, is why it isn't flooded and the rest of the city is under water. Apparently the northeast, east and southeast are flooded the worse.
FEMA is saying that it may be weeks or months before the residents who left are allowed back into the city. I can't even imagine not knowing what happened to my home and those I care about.

I was really disappointed on the reporting of this story from beginning to present.
They were saying this would be our version of the Tsunami... 40,000 or more dead.. blah blah blah. Stupid reporters out in the wind showing off trying to create drama.. "Oh I can barely stand" blah blah blah
Thank God the news was totally wrong and people, for the most part, are safe :groovy:

Thankfully, 40,000 people didn't die in New Orleans. But from what I can tell, only the French Quarter was spared massive destruction. Major parts of New Orleans are under water and will be for a long time to come. The water supply is most likely contaminated and power will be out for a long time.Quote:

80%+ of the city underwater and over 20,000 people having to live in shelters, what we went through in Florida last year was nothing in comparison.

OMG you and I watched the same footage!! I was so disgusted I stopped watching after the showoff in the wind with the goggles like some kind of dumbass megalomaniac! It wasn't until the day before yesterday that I saw the aftermath of the storm.. I don't know what your coverage there of what Bush had done cutting funding to the levies there for the last 6 years so I'm making a separate post to explain what is now coming to light.Quote:
