I would not say this kid was abused from what was said in here he sounds like a hoe. From nude JO shows, to prostitution, to a internet pimp, to becoming and nark, now people feel sorry for him? Sounds like to me he’s the one that should be in jail. I was 16 or what ever too I know what was up, as I am sure he did, its not easy to run a online company and if he could do that he’s certainly not some innocent victim in all of this.
-
There was one major detail they conveniently left off the show. They stated that 1,500 men (which they kept referring to as pedophiles) had memberships at the Mexico website. What they didn't tell you was the site had the usual 2257 over 18 statement. So these people may not have known he was 16.
Archive.org confirms this (Jan 25, 2004). There is also a surfer board (eb15.com) about webcam sites, and numerous former members of his site state that he told them he was 18. So are these people truly guilty of buying CP if they were told he was 18?
Out to help others by turning down a book deal and coming on Oprah? No way! He and that reporter are probably writing a book right now that will deal with Justin's life and protecting your kids online. Then Oprah will put it into her book club. This kid is going to be a millionaire, when he should be headed to prison for helping to operate a CP site.
-
Also, now would be a good time think about NEVER promoting any amateur operated twink webcam sites. This isn't like promoting a professional studio's webcam site where you know they have verified model ID's. These amateur cam boys answer to nobody. You have no idea how old they really are.
Even if they are 18 now, who's to say they don't have content on there that was self-produced two years prior? Who's to say an 18yo cam boy doesn't have a 17yo friend on cam?
You DON'T want to be promoting such a site, or you could end up like Casey. He started marketing the site (salary or affiliate, I don't know) after Justin turned 18, but underage content remained. Casey allegedly used the said content as promo material on his own site (which brought on his distribution of CP charges). Maybe he knew, maybe he didn't know. Point is, you could find yourself in the same position if you become an affiliate and promote the wrong site.
So stick with professional producers.

GREAT post Matt thanks for the insight!
I agree with Michael about the show being good to get parents to be more responsibile with their children online, and in general. Although, in this kids particular case, he admited to hiding everything very well, intercepting packages, etc. etc. So at the end of the day, if your kid is a greedy, manipulative liar, he's likely to fool you regardless.
Stereotypically the adult industry is satan and Gay men are pedophiles (pathetic) BUT it might save some kids from being molested, does that make it all ok? I think if someone saw a kid at 13 jacking off on cam they'd be able to tell he's underage and if that's the case they are pedos.
Another thing... why don't they refer to the thousands of men that bought Tracy Lords tapes as pedophiles? I don't get it.
-
Where was the kid's mother? Shouldn't she have been sitting right there beside him on the stage?
Sure, they interviewed her on tape. But I think her absence from the show is such a telling detail.
Michael

Yeah, I wondered why the mother was only on tape. I think there is a lot more to the story than what they were able to do in an hour.
The fundamental issue they based the show on was a 13 year old honor student that got a webcam and then after taking $50 from some guy online to take off his shirt, it started a series of events that should be scary to parents.
I'm sure he became a willing participant in the entire business side of it, but would it have happened at all if he had never gotten the webcam? Probably not.
I'm sure the NYT writer and the kid are working on a book. Hopefully it won't become another "million little pieces" fiasco for Okra.

i couldn't find any decent pics of him online(surprise!)
only blurry pic of him being 'born again' (where's a barf smilie when u need one! hint hint)
was he cute?
this kid got off scot free? wow! though i suppose he'd say ANYTHING to avoid prison
-
Wasn't there something about the father knowing and helping the kid or something? In a NYTimes article wasn't it that broke the story?
-
On the show, Justin said that someone at his school found his site and circulated a video of him. Humiliated, he took off to Mexico to visit his father, who lived there. He didn't return to his mother's home, he stayed on with his father. Justin said that when he told his father what he had been doing, his father allegedly said, "How can I help you make more money?"
I don't recall how long Justin said his father helped him.
Mark my words, Oprah's going to be doing a "eating crow" show sometime within the next year. I don't think we've finished hearing the whole story.
Cheers,
Michael

The little drama queen was not abused, by any means. If anything, he is the abuser. He made a lot of money, but his time is over and now he wants the world to know what he had to do (oops, what he had been through) to get what he wanted... and of course to extend his little venture.
When I first read the article (NYTimes or some other rag), all I could think was here is a person that knows how to sell himself!
Girls, younger than that little bastard, all over the world are forced to hook.
OhP(lease) is another that knows how to sell to the mainstream populous.
As far as I am concerned, that person knew exactly what he was doing, such as paying off his Pa (to keep his trap shut) and asking his viewers to hook him up. When a female does what he did, society is kind enough to tag them as a whore or escort, but when people, blinded by his age (not remembering some people mature sooner than others) hear about a boy doing the exact same, the floodgates open.
What an entrepreneur!

Anyone following all the latest news on this kid testifying before congress? Normally I would feel bad for a kid in this situation but something about him and his story seems very odd.
-
He had clearly been coached on how to read that speech to Congress, which was probably also written by the reporter.
Larry King, Abrams Report, Nancy Grace, O'Reilly, etc... This was everywhere yesterday. Then of course the "experts" come on these shows and link children to the adult side.
He's pretty much on a promotional pre-release book tour right now.
I feel bad for the 13-15yo Justin, but not the 16-18yo Justin. He was old enough to know he was committing crimes by that age, old enough to go back home to his mom if he was in such misery.
I still want to know how he got to Mexico in the first place. His mom just let her only son move to another country? Come on...
-
was it just me or did it look like he was dressed in a $1000 suit. I saw him testify and couldn't get over the striped suit he wore that looked like something you'd find in a Joseph Abboud store

I watched the CSPAN rerun of Justin's appearance before Congress. What I thought was interesting is that the kid's lawyer and the guy from NY Times were telling the Congressmen, "Look, we turned over 1500 names, addresses and credit card numbers of child predators. The Justice Dept has only pursued two. Why are they not going after these guys?"
I think it just proves that the 2257 bullshit is really NOT about protecting kids.
