i use to watch it , i never really agreed with the judging and/or scale by which actors and films are graded , and by the looks of who/what won this year nothing has changed!

I, too, think Nicole is a very good actress.
Of course I watched them! Like I would miss them! It's one of my favorite days of the year! :)
Entertainment journalism is my bread and butter, and I grew up with a very healthy fascination with and appreciation of the movies. Movies are, in fact, the very reason I moved to Los Angeles. Movies and music are the things that carry a lot of importance in my life, because they are reflections of the human condition. Ever since I was a little kid seeing life reflected back to me on the TV screen and the movies, I wanted to be a part of that community and that world. It's magic.
George Clooney's acceptance speech last night said everything about movies that I love. I'm not one of those people who goes around pooh-poohing Hollywood. Why should I? That's too easy. Dismissing something hat has been proved to be important to the lives of everyday, ordinary people -- that has the power to move people and inspire them and make them laugh or cry or think or even to change society -- is beyond my imagination. So, that one day a year when Hollywood takes the occasion to say, "Look how much fun this is!" you can bet I'll be watching.
I LOVE the Oscars!
Thanks, will you take it out in trade instead?Quote:

I think the only thing about movies that bug me are the people who say "I go to the movies to be entertained, I don't want to have to think while I'm there." But, to each his own. I just think it's sad. I mean, you can't live on marshmellows. Even if you love them and can eat them all the time, you still need something of substance from time to time. Okay, if you read nothing but Newsweek and classic novels all the time, I'll excuse you for making Earnist Goes To Camp the most cerebral thing on your Netflix list, but other than that, for God's sake, see at least one movie a year that you didn't see advertized on TV.
And I know I poo poo big time Hollywood movies, but I do love them. If it weren't for that, we wouldn't have King Kong, one of my favorite movies last year.
I'm the same way. I love movies of all kinds, Don. I have nothing against "big Hollywood films" if they are made well and have something to say. Or even if they are just great escapist fun (a la your fave King Kong). Nor do I have anything against movies in general, or against TV. Entertainment is an extremely valid thing in the lives of people (the validation that Brokeback has given to many is proof enough of that), and I always have to laugh at the snotty people who so casually dismiss it as "trash," "fluff" and "nonsense." To me, there's nothing trashy about good old-fashioned entertainment. If it speaks to me and helps me get through my day, it serves a vital purpose in my life. Hell, since entertainment is what pays my bills and motivates me to work harder, I'd even say it IS my life. And what a great life it is. :)Quote:
