Actually, the movie has no "religious" overtones to it, only characters or situations that are symbolic of characters and events from the Bible. But there's nothing inherently religious about the Bible. Personally, I don't mind subtle messages about Christianity, b/cuz Christianity in and of itself, is not a bad thing. It's only the religous right that has taken the faith and bastardized it into something that's reputation has been tainted by extremists. I never felt as if the Christian allegories (which were, incidentally, just as present in the book) were hitting me over the head. I think the truth is that people are so skeptical of Christianity now that anytime anyone says ANYTHING about it, they have a knee-jerk reaction to it. But seriously... the messages in the movie are truly ones that we could all afford to live by.
