Pierre:
I make it a point to plan out a budget for Google Adwords campaigns. And thanks to their excellent reporting system, you can literally create your own spreadsheet showing your costs and results.
Approach it like you have to spend $100 to make $150, whereas otherwise you would be making nothing. Also, don't overpay the price for your clicks. For example, if the keyword "gay twinks" is very high, leave it alone and think up some keywords that would cost less. Expensive keywords unneccessarily chew through your money.
You also need to keep your eyeballs on your campaigns. One day you may find five new people have started bidding up the prices of the keywords in your campaigns. (example: non adult retail shopping during the holidays)
One last thought, in contrast to the first obvious keyword choice, I would suggest that you consider not bothering to run a campaign on your name. Googling your name already puts your pay site as the number one listing. So why spend money on something that you are already getting for free?
I guess I could say that you would be looney to spend one loonie on a campaign using the keywords "Pierre Fitch"
Alternatives: I'd gravitate towards tiny classified print ads in magazines like Unzipped or Cybersocket, if you are going to be spending your hard earned money on advertising.
Of course, nobody ever said that you had to limit yourself to traditional advertising. I consistently do not stick to the standard methods for my sites. If you want to publicize your website, go make some news. The new wave of blogs and fangroups will eat it up, because they have a constant hunger for new things to talk about....and that's free publicity.
