I remember getting drunk off my ASS in Nuevo Laredo several times. Loved it! But not now--first, no more booze for this recovering alcoholic and second, I refuse to visit a city where necklacing takes place. [where a small tire is jammed around the victim, pinning his arms to his side, and the tire is doused with a propellant and set ablaze]
Now that it appears Mexico will allow possession of small amounts of drugs like marijuana, how do you think that will affect the drug trade? There are not many people that can go to Mexico just to get high. The big demand is still in the US.

Let me tell you ... INS half cares half doesn't.
When I was getting my visa one time at the US Consulate, two old folks wanting to come see their newborn grandson and bring an old car on their way back were denied a visa. But the burly dude next to them with the leather jacket and dark glasses acting like an ass got his visa. The old couple were told they're an immigration risk. At least they were told.
The US consulates rake in exorbinant amounts of money frivolously denying visas without any explanation whatsoever. They just slip your passport under the glass and leave - no goodbye, nothin. Meanwhile you're out at least $100, every time you go in for an interview. I know of people who go 7-8 times for interviews every time denied without reason and on the 9th they get their visa, no questions asked. They're just $1000+ out of cash
CNN had a really nice documentary on people who are undocumented and showed one town near Atlanta. On one side are all the undocumented guys looking for work, farmers stopping with trucks picking up dozen at a time. Across the street cops, and/or I think INS agents eating donuts and doing nothing. When the CNN guy asked why aren't they aresting anyone the officer said they just wanted to make sure nobody was comiting crimes.
I do find it funny how people scream - it's my country, it's my land, get out. Sort of the same way it happened with the indians who've now been reduced to patches of groups here and there.
Anyone ever been to Washington DC may notice something - we stayed at a 4 star hotel ALL the maids were foreign and most didn't speak a bit of english. The guys in the underground garages were all mexican, russian, ukranian. Sitting all day rotting in the damn fucking car garage breathing car fumes.
the border should be taken under control, build walls or whatever shit you want, fix the visas and put a fucking pressure on the corrupt goverments to better their citizen's lives and they'll stop wanting to leave home and family to hopefully make better lives for themselves.
