The Gay Webmaster community can seem a bit intimidating. It's smaller, more interconnected, and you have to know where to go to find it. You can end up posting on thegayboard and wonder where everybody is.
There also does seem to be a bit of a victim complex going around. So you can see being afraid of slipping up or coming off as an insincere attempt to court gay webmasters. The whole, "they should have a gay affiliate rep" thing tends to intimidate too. You look at the situation, and you think, all right, they're just like anybody else, but they like dudes, it doesn't sound like rocket science. So you assume you're missing something that you could only understand as a gay affiliate rep. I see the need for gay content producers to produce gay content, and gay marketing guys to promote their product right, but not gay affiliate reps.
Also, to say something controversial. Straight dude culture demands a touch of homophobia. Straight guys accusing other guys of gayness is a longstanding part of straight guy culture. It doesn't really work if they turn out to be gay though. Also gay being funny is also a big thing that straight guys would unwilling to give up. Is, would you call it autohomophobia, where-in a dude is intimidated by the idea of being gay, offensive? Is that confused with homophobia, where guys are intimidated by other guys being gay? Overall, any touchy culture can be intimidating. It's like dealing with Hamasbucks and Quedadollars, you make one wrong comment and they send a suicide bomber to deliver your affiliate check.
Frankly the breeders thing doesn't bother me, but it presents a good opportunity for straight people to get to play victim as well. People love being victims.
Aside from the issues above. I'm totally not ignoring the gay market. If you guys need a gay sex toy store, come to me. If one aspect of it is insufficiently gay, help us out a little and tell us. We're constantly striving to present the best experience possible.
