Wish I knew... never did understand that multiple username stuff... :morning:

I am who I pretend to be.
The point I was trying to make in this post is why is it so important to purge the database of users every 30 days? That seems a bit excessive to me. I know I am not the only one here who doesn't make an effort of making sure I come here to post every 30 days or so just to keep my username active. No it’s not hard to login once a month, but if I have to do that every 30 days just so I don’t lose my name then fuck it. I would much rather post elsewhere where I don’t have to worry about a rule like that. Lee you are more than welcome to run the board like you want. I was just wondering why this rule is so important.
You claim you purge the database every 30 days to keep the DB as tidy as possible and for festering bots. This is why VBulletin created plug-ins to clean up bots and have the captcha on the newer versions. This seems like a more effective way of keeping your DB tidy than losing legitimate webmasters from posting on GWW.
GWW already uses those plugins from VBulletin and spam bots STILL get past those systems, thats why im using this specific plugin and running it every 30 days, to make sure that deliquent accounts, primarily created by spammers, are removed from the database. Yes, genuine accounts are going to be flagged as inactive too, its an unfortunate realisizm of having to constantly adapt to and fight board spammers.
Its also why free web-based email address that are popular with spammers have been banned from user profiles upon registration, despite some of the GWW regulars using them for their emails.
Its also why a new registered user has to make a certain number of posts before being able to put links in their replies or threads.
Bottom line here, as long as spammers/post bots continue to by-pass the systems put in place by VBulletin, im going to have to keep restricting certain things like email addresses and the lengths of time where users have been logged out before being removed, otherwise GWW is going to turn in to a clusterfuck which will effect everyone.
Regards,
Lee
There are probably issues of unique visitors per month, page views and thread count to set advertising rates. That little email reminder sent near the end of the month would probably generate a few hundred additional uniques, and of course this thread has increased page views and thread count.
Just a guess on my part. With the instigated drama here, it all works together to keep those numbers up in the face of competition from other boards that have seen a recent surge in popularity.

Yep, traffic count is slowly falling down.....
Will someone tell me what the point of all this is?
