As far as ads go, I also have to speak up and say that our Editor JoeD goes above and beyond to make sure that each issue is of high-quality standard, has a high text-to-ad ratio and that each article is written by actual webmasters and online professionals that are "in the trenches", working the industry and contributing to the community. But remember, ads are not just advertisements - they are actually a great way to stay on top of what's going on in the industry, an excellent means to take the pulse or temperature of how the industry is doing. Go back and look at past issues of your favorite magazines - adult OR mainstream - and you can see the rise & fall of trends, see the successes and the failures - it's an interesting look into what's REALLy going on in the biz.

BTW - we will be updating the site later today @ Klixxx.com and will be featuring one of Eric's awesome articles! Make sure to take a peek!

EmporerEJ - as i recall, when zmaster sent dawgy a flyer, the word got out and his bank asked him to bank elsewhere. and there weren't many elsewheres there to bank.

i know many small town webmasters who would not appreciate this kind of mail. they are in no position without becoming the town pariah to try and make a stand or sue. some of these people were outed as webmasters and can no longer bank, get a babysitter, or other normal things.

i don't think it's a company's business (or a person's) to out someone regarding being an adult webmaster, gay, living a fetish lifestyle or anything else.

Are you kidding me? "Outing them?"
Please explain to me how someone is "Outed" by receiving a magazine or a piece of what I assume (Flyer) was junk mail?
Do we really live in that world? I know I don't. And I think you are overstating it a bit. I live in the heart of the Amish country and even a story on the front page of the local section didn't even bat an eyelash around here. If he/she/webmaster actually Do live in that type of place, then they should choose a different lifestyle, or move. But don't blame it on the perfectly legal businesses. And certainly don't expect them to be the ones that worry about it.
We live in a free expression country. When anyone....I mean anyone, accepts that type of persecution, it degrades ALL our freedoms.

And I would LOVE to see the bank letter that said "we can't accept your business because we don't think it's right." (As long as it's legal of course.) Lest we all forget that any bank wishing to be a member of the federal reserve system abide by the law of the land which includes no discrimination. That goes for Gays, Blacks, Hispanics, and oh my yes, awful adult webmasters.

I get Crisco Handballing BareBack Country Boys Quarterly and have for a few years now.

Actually I don't subscribe to any myself, though we do get just about any magazine imaginable here at the office and help myself to read through what interests me whenever they arrive.

AVN, AVNOnline, Klixxx, and many more. Although I'm personally more inclined to check out a mag's website regularly and read through the things on there before opening up the print version as... well... I do everything online. Pay bills, read the news, watch TV, read magazines, have sex. ya know.

Well, do try to understand us old folks......you young whipper snappers do everything the modern way. The older generation still needs the feel of a good piece of paper between our fingers.
And, you know, when I go to the reading room, it's difficult to carry my desktop computer with me.

I am a magazine junkie myself (I even archive all the old issues of my faves!) - but to really, really know that I have "arrived" would be the day I could afford to have a nice web set-up installed in the bathroom. How sad is that? lol I would probably freak over a shower set-up, a nice over the bed flat screen monitor so I could work on those middle-of-the-night ideas & projects... even something cool in the car! :thumbsup:

I know there's such a thing as wireless today, but we're talking about some really POSH ways to bring your connection with you EVERYWHERE - lol Like that guy in the Circuit City commercial with the soccer game on like 50 tvs throughout the house. Oh, I'm such a nerd... *sigh*

EmporerEJ - what world are YOU living in? every week, i see a thread somewhere asking if family members know what people do. mostly the answer is at least a partial no.

as it happens, my family does know. so do most people i know. but i am not the usual story.

a large number of bank of americas in california will close your account if they know you are an adult webmaster. they will be very honest and tell you the reason. i know of branches of other banks that will also close your account. and i know a few people in smaller towns whose bank accounts in small branches of large nat'l banks were closed because of the work they do.

there are a fair number of accountants who will not work for you. i've met a couple. there are people who believe what we do is illegal - someone i know went to his attorney for legal advice and was told porn is illegal in california.

and i know several people whose parents have not spoken to them for years because their adult children were marketing porn. and i know of two porn webmistresses who had the state try to take their children because of marketing porn - when the children were not even home. these women did not do their own shoots - they did not work when their children were home. in no way did this affect those children.

a free country? in a way, yes. but that leaves the bank and other businesses free to choose not to do business with you.

What about CYBERSOCKET WEB MAGAZINE?!!!

That is the best and most entertaining of all, and is directed to BOTH consumers & webmasters in the gay market! :groovy:

I'll see you and raise you one. In the plan for our new facility, (Which I will be having an apartment on the 2nd floor) I have plans to fit the shower (with seat) with at least a monitor. The throne will DEFINITELY have a combo monitor/TV with a cordless (of course) keyboard.
I figure, what's the point in getting in my car at all? I'm losing nearly 4 hours a week in travel time.

Well, I feel for you. I guess you california folk ain't got it all figured out like you thought you did, huh?
Here we sit in conservative central PA USA, and we got more freedom. EVERY family member knows what I do. If I had to hide t, I wouldn't do it. I don't condemn anyone for making their choice. But you damn well better take responsibility for it and not blame someone else for it "getting out." You CHOOSE to hide it, you CHOOSE to take the risk. Don't ask me to lie for you. (Figuratively speaking)

I know that in the "real world" all the things that you say happen do happen. And it's not right. So what shall we do? Hide? When is it enough?
If there is one thing we've learned from the past several years, it's the public doesn't tolerate people that hide things. Clinton, Martha, add it up. They hung them out to dry because they lied. If you are gonna hang me out to dry, you are damn well gonna do it for something I did openly, not because I tried to hide something and lied about it. I'm not ashamed of what I'm doing, and if you (the public) have a problem with it, it's YOUR problem. Deal with it.
