Yes it takes a lot to get any type of site up and running. The main thing is to try to figure out what people are not going to get bored with and to latch on it. Yes there are a few Social Networking sites right now. But something definitely new will come along and people will jump on it... because after a while the same people come onto the sites and people get bored with people easily.
IE. Less users I notice in my area who used to go to gay.com to hookup, I see less of on gay.com now and moreso on manhunt, or both even because they are two similar sites to network on but have completely different user bases. It really depends on the people and what they are looking for. And that is where the success lies.
Something else will come along that is pretty much the same as the sites before, but just better features or different features or different users, and it will click.
