Mine was a pretty new one. Less than a year old and with all the updates installed.
I gave up and went to Quicktime, never been happier. AND it plays on the iPhone.
But... in the Darker Days I used flip4mac and it worked ok. But since there's no plugin API for the new iMovie, you can't directly export from it. Yuck.
We had been doing our WMV movies on Squeeze on a Dell Workstation, but we found that using Flip4Mac Studio Pro within Compressor on a Mac G5 was much faster and produced better looking movies. You do have to play a lot with the settings to get what you want, but that's the same with any program.
We've stopped using our Dell Xeon workstation for WMV creation and now use it only to test our sites. Everything else is done on Macs. Even when we run Windows we now run it on Macs. No more desktop Dells. Our only Dells are our servers, and 4 of the 5 run Linux and 1 is a Windows Media Streaming Server.
